Found this with a quick search.

Casting numbers 125555846 is used from 99-00 and some in the 98 motors. Numbers 12559378 is 00-01 LS1 block and 12561168 which is the LS6 block from 01+

To determine the year of the block, there is a 4 digit casting number on the front of the block just below the passenger side head. It's a letter followed by 3 numbers. The letter tells you the month (ex. A= January B= February & so on I believe they skip "I") the next two are the date and the last digit is the year. For example mine is F203 which means is was manufactured on June 20, 2003.

Thanks guys.

I have a 12551364 and the number under the head is I092. So I guess it is August 09, 2002 so would it be a 2003 model year or 2002? I am wanting to get a rotating assy for it and I want to get the right crank.

You will need to buy a rotating assembly and other parts for an 02 since that was the date of manufacture. Even though I don't think there is any difference be the those two years. They both have 24 tooth reluctor rings

not to hijack...but i was wanting to know this,.. so if i came across a good deal on a 99-00 shortblock, with intentions of stroker kit anyway, i don't need to worry about this "spacer" on the crank difference between the years?
Is this the only difference in blocks over the years?

the spacer on the crank was only on 99's and early 2000's i beleive. this was to mate it to the 4L80E. if your going to put it behind a 4L60E or a T56, you wont need the spacer. so if it comes with the spacer, take it off and send it to me because i need it.

no, the LT1 4L60 will require the spacer.
