Cam only LS1??
I am currentlly a proud owner of a 2001 WS6 with the awesome LS1 and M6. I was wondering what evryone thinks a good camshaft would be on a stock LS1. I was wanting to get around 400 hp. Yet, I am considering different exhaust, and I need to still be able to drive it as a dailly driver. Also what are the stock fuel injectors capable to?
Thanks

if your stock then dont bother with a cam yet. lay down the foundation with a good induction and exhuast setup. cams need to breath to get the most out of them. your 01 cam with 28.5# inj. and there good for 450rwhp give or take.
and take the time to do research, it goes along way. just look at peoples sigs and read past threads here and in the newbie section. will set you up on your way.

Ok, I understand I need a good exhaust and some sort of air filter system. I would like to keep the stock intake manifold for now beens I understand it is the same as the LS6. I was wanting to see what a cam would be good to drive on, and be able to scare some new cobras. I think you understand what I mean, not look like tons has been done to it. I have read about lots of cams, just don't know what everyone else thinks.

there are really too many factors.
do you want to pass smog?
dailydriver?
what RPM range?
do you want it stealthy?
do you want it lopey?
will you be running headers?
do you want to mess with tuning?
any nitrous?
there is alot of info in this section. the best way is to do a search and start reading.
i would start looking at the smaller Thunder cams or MTI cams

If you want the best performing cam. Then you need a Futral Motorsports
FM-F4-114. The specs are 226/226 575/575 114LSA. This cam has gone 10.98 in the fastest cam only car. It is also very streetable. Do what you like, but if I were you I'd go w/ the proven best!!

Alright well personally I will never do nitros. I want to run 91 or 92 gas only. I understand good exhaust and all. I want to try to stay away from reprogramming with LS1-edit. Only to fine tune maybe a little later. Nothing to crazy were it is a pain to drive. I still want to be kinda a sleeper. )but (lopey is still cool) As far as RPM range I believe a stock computer shuts off at 6200 and that's plenty.. as close to bottom end and to 6000 that I can get would be good. Nothing like 8 mpg or something stupid.

sounds like the ls6 cam is right for you. very simple plug and play cam that doesnt require any tuning other then raising the rev limiter. or look into the gt2-3 cam, its like an ls6 cam on steriods. also a comps 212/218 will give you good low end mid range power. stock tune should be able to handle that as well.
and also it sounds like the stock cam will be fine for you and just get all the bolt ons, that'll work as well aslo. as you'll be hard pressed to find a cam that doesnt peak before the stock 6250 fuel cut off.

Well actually I still don't wont to be to awfull hard on this engine beens it is stock bottom end. I don't beleive I should go over 6200 RPM even if the car is possible of going more than that. A good cam should still have more power before 6200. So I don't think I would loose to much would I?

i cant think of any cams that peak before the stock rev limiter. even the ls6 cams get shifted higher that that. you need around a 212/218 then get a shop to adjust your rev limiter for a few bucks. oh, and you need headers or a cam isnt going to feel nearly as strong.

Ok, So what are some of the best headers on the market. (quality also). What type of air filter intake, and has anyone gone to a 85mm MAF? I just want to make sure I do this thing right when I do. Not run into huge problems, or wish I tried somehting else first. Also were they running 10's with stock heads and a aftermarket cam???

"best" is a relative term, kooks and qtp's are generally known for being top quality. horse power gains are withing the normal range of all the other LT's out there though. dont waste your time on a MAF, your stock one will support more then what you plan to throw at it.
