Default timings way off why? c5 zo6 after cam install 6mths ago

i got a cam install about 6 months ago left my stock timing chain.. got it done at hpe in houston .... last saturday i turnend it on and the timing was way off it was just backfiring, lagging in power and could not take it down my street so i put it back in the garage ...... could anything have damaged what could have gone wrong if it has been running perfectly ever since the install....? ive heard that it can be my crank position sensor gone bad or my timing chain got loose or its damaged ..... or something about the cam install is not correct HELP not sure what it could be i am taking it back to HPE on monday when they re open from the holidays....... i need advise from anyone thanks.....

Do you happen to have an ASP crank pully on it? Sounds like you skipped a tooth on the timing chain.

I didn't ask if you had the stock crank, I asked if you have an ASP crank pulley on it. Knowing what crank pulley could help figure out the cause of the problem.

I am not saying the timing chain was installed wrong, I am saying that it may have skipped a tooth. This can happen if the chain is worm out.

How are you determining that the timing is off? what are you reading?

That's what I was wondering how do you know? Id take it back to them to get it checked. Did they put the LS7 chain on it? I think that's what most people are doing now isn't it? Since its designe to sustain higher RPMs or something along those lines. But as LT1Porsche said...how do you know?

The OP reused the stock timing chain.

The symptoms - backfiring, lagging and power loss could be caused by any number of things some of which have nothing to do with the cam install six months ago.

I would lean towards a sensor issue and not a hard part problem. I would look into the crank position first. Those can wreak havoc on general driving.

Well here's. The update. I thought ig was timing because lack of power and backfiring and. Yes I do hav the stoc crank pulley the car was towed to. Lonestar chevy for a diagnostic and they said it was the catalic converters so I had the car towed to vetttech in katy texas. Now I replaced them wit no cats a set of lg motorsports longtubes and catless x pippe. So I went to pic up the car and and it started but it died and started back up but died again so the car stayed and its being looked at today the guy thinks it can be the crankshaft position sensor but he's not sure yet wht do u guys think???

I'd agree, it sounds more like a maintanence issue than a cam install or tune problem. How many miles on the current O2 sensors? Do you run a K&N oiled filter? What'd the tuner say about the sensors' performance? Did he mention any lagging or unresponsive sensors or skewed feedback to the PCM from any sensor?

The sensor is $50 or less and it won't take long to swap it. The starter likely has to be removed though.

Are they guessing it is the crank sensor or did they diagnose it (e.g. capture a waveform of it using an oscilloscope)...?

Since you have a C5, what are the error codes? Is the check engine light on?
