Default What do you think caused this...

410 iron block, forged rotating assembly, 9.5 compression, 500 miles
pt88 ~14lbs of boost
~12 degrees timing

Never detected knock or heard detonation, AFR was 11.5. Fuel system was within capacity (IDC <90%). Heat range 7 NGK plugs.

thoughts? theories?

DENTONATION, find a new tuner. Look at the other piston, its about to toss its cookies too. Those pistons are WAY overheated. I'll guess someone tuned the knock sensors out.

you can definitely tell by the color of the pistons that they were over worked. what type of coolant system are you running? FMIC? what were intake temps like under WOT?

That damaged happened at WOT, don;'t drive WOT to work and you'll be fine.

Looks like detonation. Did it melt the top ring land or did it break it off? Hard to tell from the pic.

Pretty sure it melted the ring land, although there are chips on the piston and cylinder head from what looks like fragments flying around.

I will know more when I pull the engine this weekend and can get a good look at it. Cooling system is basically stock with a 34" rad. Intake temps got up to around 170 but its pulling timing down to 3 or 4 degrees at that point.

Do you think that injector could be clogged?

Looks to me like the tune was too close to the edge, I'll bet ALL the pistons are damaged and 7 and 8 always do run leaner than the rest.
