Cam swap and motor mounts..now zero oil pressure
Well fired the car tonight..prob is, I have no oil pressure..
And I don't mean low, I mean zero..started the car and the gauge went to 80psi and then went to zero and check gauges. And it wasn't a oil pressure sweep, there was no 3-5 second delay, started the car and the gauge instantly swept and now it's not even off the stop below zero
2 scenarios...bad sending unit, or bad oil pump. Car is quiet and doesn't rattle or knock like it has no oil I just have nothing on the gauge. So I'm going to run a mechanical and see what it says, if it reads zero I guess the pump is the culprit and I'll be pulling the front cover one more time.
Already pulled the intake and the sending unit is in tack so I'm not sure if it's the problem or not...anyone else ever had this happen?
Main reason I suspect the sending unit is because I did motor mounts as well and had the motor at max lift on a jack a few times trying to wrestle the clam shells.
I radiused the inlets and outlets on the pump as well as shimmed the relief spring .100" or badically added 10psi at the gauge in volume according to lingenfelter. The only control I have is to put the stock one back and see what happens. Or just go buy a new one.
Any other ideas, I know almost 100% that the o ring didn't get pinched, and even if it did I'd still have SOME pressure at the gauge.

Correct me if I'm wrong but even if the o ring got pinched, hell even if I didn't even install it I'd still be able to rev the car and see the gauge respond, correct?

Your lifters are getting oil. If the sensor looks ok, check the wire and connector - there may be an open or short. I see you're a SAM graduate. I'm betting your o-ring is ok. Good luck.

Hi,
i concur with the other post. I would use an external gauge to rule out the unit. Then move forward from there to find the problem. Hopefully the pump and o-ring are ok. I would err on the cautious side if i were in your shoes.
Best of luck and have a blessed weekend. Jim

Thanks for all the replies gentlemen, ended up pulling the front cover back off and removing the front pump cover, pump was full of oil but it seems the bypass valve hung and was just dumping everything back into the pan...swapped out the pump with another unit and tried again, bam, 40psi at idle hot..
Car is now 100% done besides the tune, this auto hates it's new torquer V3

Excellent lesson for me as well!
Here's a short vid, after a little adjusting I got her to idle

When I disassembled the pump I did not remove the actual piston thats in the bore...however after this fiasco I tried to remove it and it would get stuck right at the bottom...I'm guessing when I started the car it saw 80psi and opened the relief, but the relief hung in the bore and therefor let all the oil bypass...it was just one of those random things. I'm glad it didn't happen at a track and I was able to correct it without engine damage..
Lesson here, next time 100% disassemble the pump and don't just shim the spring and re cap the relief.
I completely disassembled the pump that's on it now and the piston fell right out like it should.
