Default Yet another good reason to degree your cam

When I was younger and didn't know anything I never degreed a cam when I installed it. Just dot to dot. I like to think I'm smarter now than I was then. When I did my H/C/I/E swap on my 00' Hawk I degreed the EPS cam I got. It was suppose to be on a 110 ICL and it was about 111.5 I think. After degreeing it ended up at 109.5. Close enough for me.

I built a 355 LT1 for my friend. We degreed the cam he got from Lloyd Elliot, it was suppose to be at 110 and it was at 113.5 I checked it three different times and got the same numbers each time. We picked up the comp cams bushing kit and used the 4 degree bushing and ended up at 109.5 Again close enough for me.

From what I understand from the comp cam video that the ICL changes what RPM the powers at not necessarily total power. If that's is wrong someone with more knowledge(not that it would take much)please throw some input in here.

That is my understanding also but I am not an expert either...moves the power curve(rpm) but not necessarily total power.

I don't understand how the angles can be so far off. You would think with todays technology and precision tooling that you wouldn't see more the .5 degree off.

part or most of that could be due to tolerance stacking.example:
cam is off a little.
timing gears/chain are off a little
crankgear is off a little.
add all that up and it can throw you off a couple of degrees easy.

By changing the ICL, you are changing the valve events. This affects power and location of peaks in the band.

There's something you should try. The brain is not a finite resource, you can use it all you want and never run out of it.

Well that could be the difference between a cam that has the potential of yielding a 50rwhp increase and one that just gives you 35. All this leaves you wondering why YOUR setup doesn't put out the same numbers as Mr.X
Attention to details can yield the extra power so dearly thought and paid for.
