so ive got this 6.0 block at home...
inherited from a friend, iron gm 6.0 block, just the block. i want to put it together for a motor to put in my truck till i do the full engine build (ive got another block for that).
is it worth trying to locate stock assembly parts for rebuild, or better off going for aftermarket/stroker rebuild? can i stroke without boring? ive got some 317 heads, some 853 heads, stock 6.0 camshaft(told its same as ls1?), stock 6.0 pushrods and rockers, cpl truck intakes with tb's, stock oiling system(pump/pickup/windage tray), timing chain, most everything to put one back together minus a rotating assembly.
im not looking for big power, a reliable 300-350hp would be enough. more for fuel economy and reliability than anything, will be used for prolly few yrs till i build the turbo motor.
thanks!

i think you'd do fine with a good set of used stock internals. and maybe snag a used baby cam and some LT's. but if this is just a place holder then i wouldn't get too radical.

just reading through some threads.... the 6.0 block is a 4.000 bore correct? same as the ls2? .... see where im going with this? can i build an ls2 from this block? seeing lots of ls2 parts in the classifieds on this site and others.... just curious. from what im reading the only difference is the aluminum block of the ls2?

yes it's the same bore and stroke as an ls2. and yes i believe you can stuff an LQ block with ls2 internals. however, as i have never done this you should confirm my assumption. but i am positive ls2 799's and/or 243's are a direct swap. which you should be able to find decent used heads fairly cheap as well. just have a machine shop check everything out for wear and freshen the heads up before install.

so far your thinking right... Jus grab some stock 6.0L internals-4.00" bore and stroke, 6.125" rods, a small cam not over 228 or 114 LSA, use your 317 heads or a cheap set of stock 243/799's your choice and a LS2 or LS6 intake manifold. With 243/799's you should be around 350 range, maybe lower if an auto. But it'll be reliable and a strong motor to get ya by. good luck to ya

cool, thanks drewhelm, ill keep an eye out.
but for now i think im going to build with these lq4 internals. what kind of compression ratio would the lq4 have with 317 heads?

I am rebuilding my LQ9. I went with sealed power pistons, $240 for the pistons and about $100 for a ring set from summitracing. They are 4.030 oversize stock replacements. Comes with the tops and skirts coated. I am reusing the stock rods and crank.
