Default Can this be saved?

I pick up a 6.0 shortblock today and the guy was selling it for $450. thought it seemed like an okay deal and I ended up picking it up for $300

He dropped it off at my shop and all seemed good until I got a chance to look over it with a fine tooth comb after we closed. everything checked out fine until I came across a hole where a head bolt goes. I dont know I missed this on my first go around but w/e

before I go after this guy for my money back I was wondering if the block could be patched or if the hole only showing 6-7 threads is even going to leak coolant or ruin the blocks integrity?

no, that cannot be fixed. they must have had water in the bolt hole when they tightened the headbolt. the water hydrolocks and cracks the block right there..

as far as being able to use it still... well it will probably bolt back together okay, but i definitely wouldnt try to run a ton of HP through that block. you might get uneven clamping force and have headgasket sealing issues.

if it were me, id try to find a new block, and try to get my money back... sorry about that

That could probably be welded shut and rethreaded, but I wouldn't deal with it. I'd get my money back.

My thoughts as well. It could easily be welded, but the hassle is not worth it. These blocks are so plentiful and affordable, its not worth saving.

It could quickly be welded, but the stress is not value it. These prevents are so numerous and cost-effective, its not value preserving.
