All depends on how much time/money you want to put into it...stock bottom end should be able to hold 500+ fwhp. I think they were rated somewhere just under 300hp

I would atleast put a good set of rod bolts in at or over 500, might be able to hold more, but 500 is safe

The weak link is in the pistons, GMPP suggests no more than 550 hp on stock pistons, however the LSA uses the same material and they now make 580 hp on boost with a 5yr/100,000 mile warranty. I'd still change rod bolts though.

I've seen one of my friends run 10's for years with a big cam and big n2o shot in his 98t/a with stock rod bolts....but it eventually grenaded lol

Some get lucky, but some don't

It's well known that the weak link are the rods. They seem to bend around 900 hp. The LQ4 rods will take 800.

Usually the weak link is the rods (in just about any OEM engine), however the pistons are only "rated" at 550 (800/900 for rods, crank will take just about anything you can throw at it).
