Default Ring gaps. What would you run?

Lost my Mahle sheet on ring specs and had no luck finding info on web. I called Mahle and the tech said run it @
.020 on both the upper and lower rings. Looked more on web and getting a few different answers/ideas so I just am looking for additional information. Motor is stock crank with 3.903 pistons. Thanks.

I searched the web for piston ring end gap and got dozens of pages. Here is one to look at.

It depends on the application. Any nitrous? Blower? Turbo? How much power are you looking for?

not sure for NA apps but usually the bottom ring is slightly larger than the top ring...

Mine are set at top ring .029 and bottom at .030 and these are huge gaps for boost/nitrous but... I wish i woulda went a tad smaller though.

In that case, I'd shoot for about .016-.018" on the top and .018-.020" on the second ring.

Street/hi performance Bore x .0045". 2nd ring .004-.008 larger than top ring
Drag racing/road racing Bore x .005". See above
Turbo/nitrous Bore x .0055". See above

Oil rings min .015 do not file.

Taken from cp' s site but its the formula I always use when fitting rings.
