Default anyone feel like educating me on cylinder head cc sizes?

as the title says, im just curious about the different sized combustion chambers. I understand that with larger heads you get larger chambers, but can you bolt any of them up directly to an ls1 block without any mods? im guessing no, but not sure.

Chamber size effects compression. Basically, the CCs is just the amount of space cut into the head where the valves are. When the piston come up at TDC there is space there between the piston and the head + addtional in the chamber. The less room, the more compression there is. Chamber size isnt a factor "if" the head can be bolted on.

interesting, thanks! so im guessing compression ratios are relative to your needs/ wants from you car, right? in other words, there is no 'ideal' compression ratio for every ls1?

Not exactly, it really more depends what you are doing and wanting out of the motor.

Well that would more depend on what modifications you are going to choose to make that power. If you go boost you typically want a lower compression so you can be safer. If you are doing everything all motor you would want to look at a higher compression ratio for more power and response.

good to know, thanks guys!

i just ordered texas speeds 228r cam 112lsa. im planning on doing all motor, at least until i hit the lottery... could you prescribe a good set of budget heads to go with them? i was considering the 243's but someone else suggested the 5.3's. thoughts?

id say about 50:1 to 60:1 to outrun the chopper. that way you wont even have the chance to get into trouble, your engine would be in pieces. building a car to outrun the police is foolish to say the least.

We talking LS1? I like the stage 2.5 LS6 heads, but I have to admit the PRC 5.3 heads are a good bang for the buck if you are on a budget.

I would first look at the LS6 heads if you can. They are a little more expensive but the port is better so they tend to make a little better power. The 5.3l heads are a great budget setup but that the end of the day the LS6s are a better ported head.
