Default Sounds like a bird in my engine bay

Hi guys,

About 2 months ago I started noticing a funny sound that sounds like a bird on the drivers side on my engine. It goes "chirp" with the engine RPM, but no noticeable power loss.

Thinks it's a rocker, or a pushrod or possible an exhaust leak??

Anyone heard of this before? I can get sound clip if needed.

Thanks.

Honestly Sommers it sounds like a lifter tick when I heard it. Pull valve cover and check all rockers/push rods. Cycle engine and check all lfters when valve is closed. When I lost the lifter in my SS one of my push rods were silver on the end. There was no real noticeable power loss until the car fell flat on its face racing Lee and the lifter exploded. I wrote it off as an exhaust leak(which I did have..)

Look at your ac belt tensioner, and you main belt tensioner. If they are bouncing around, they need to be replaced.

Probably not it... But spun bearings resemble that noise.

What's the frequency of this chirp? You said it goes along with the rpm is it like a constant chip, so it would really be a squeal? Or is it once every few seconds?

What are the mods and particular mileage on these mods?

I actually heard this for the first time recently on my friends 6.0 I thought it might of been cam bearings. I'm used to rods knocking when bearings spin.

Sommers easy way to check if its an exhaust leak, harder for an auto but get on freeway or something next to a wall. And give it gas but not enough that it down shifts. If tick stays with rpms its engine. If it gets louder/faster its exhaust.

Is it at idle or only under load? Does it increase with RPM?

u sure your crank pulley is not wobbling causing the belt to chirp

SUPER common in Vettes it seems like but definitely where I would check. Has anyone been in the motor for anything?

Doesn't sound like a belt. Sounds like something is rattling. How are your motor mounts? Does it do it when you brake hard?

Thats an exhaust leak. Had the same exact sound when my header gasket went to crap. When I went to replace it I could see black soot marks on/around the header and head where it was leaking.

If it's not belt/pulley noises then I would pull the pushrods to see if one is pluged up. It also sounds like lack of oil to a rocker. It's hard to tell from a vid.

I would remove belts to see if it's a tensioner or idler pulley bearing first.

That's not a belt noise. My car has a belt noise and it's nothing like that.

It sounds like something is loose. Exhaust leak at the header would do that.

Maybe not a belt, but it could be a bad bearing in a pulley though.

It all sounds the same. Bearings cause a sustainer squeal. Easiest way to rule out belt is to run it without one. Or just spray water on the grooved side of the belt to lubricate/alleviate tension on the serpentine setup. If it doesn't come back while the belt is lubricated (couple squirts from water bottle should last 10 secs until it evaporates) then you know it's a belt issue.

spun bearing in my 383 SBC in my IROC when i had it.
I sure hope its not but sure sounds the same.
I spent a crap load of money on that motor and never really got to play with it. Got me in all kinds of trouble is what it did...LOL
