Run 5w30, pretty much any good synthetic will cover what you need. I don't want to start a oil war which seems to happen here allot.

agreed, no need to start an oil war. As for your question though, 200 miles is fine. Once the rings seat, which they should have, you can run what you want. Within reason of course. I usually use 5w-30 synthetic as well.

Did you make any specific effort to seat the rings?

I'm still running break in oil. I have about 500 miles on mine.

There is no need to run a super thick oil or what ever tips and tricks you read online. If your bearing clearances are at OEM spec, stick with 5W30 as recommended by GM .

I also feel 200 miles is not enough if you have just been driving around. I have beaten mine a little and even had it on the dyno. I'm still waiting a few more miles to put synthetic in.

I plan on putting a 1000 on my new motor with break in oil. Then I will run a standard 5W30 synthetic oil. Then tune it and head to the track!!

I ran break in oil up to 500 miles, broken in and tuned like that. Put conventional 10-40 in from 500 to 1500, and now 10-40 synthetic. Mine is a heavy nitrous short block so don't pay attention to the weight.

I had ring seating issues at first. Car wouldn't hold a tune because they weren't seated. Once it would Idle it needed some hard miles on it, but I lucked out.

Since GM ran Synthetic from day 1, I feel running break in oil for 500 miles is already above and beyond.
