Default Need help finding tools...

i'm getting ready for my in car cam swap on my 02' SS. I need to purchase two tools for the job.

Looking for
1 JPR cam install tool to hold the lifters
2 MORE valve spring compressor that fits under the cowl

Was told i could get them from thunder racing, but is seams as tho they have closed. anyone know where i can get the proper tools that i need?

You should be able to get away without the lifter tool. That is unless your trays are very worn.

Agree, but risk is low. By rotating the cam without the rockers and push-rods, they will be captured in the lifter trays and stay put. Not guaranteed like you said based on wear, but most of the time it works.

i wouldnt waste money on the cam install tool. the lifter trays should hold up fine however go to lowes or home depot and get a 5/16 wooden dowl and cut it to length then file one end down to round it off. works just like the metal tool but only costs 75 cents

They have to be the length of the motor.

OP, I have done some pretty high mileage motors and the lifters stay up with no issues.

If they were 6" longer than the cam, that should be plenty. If you don't have the new cam yet, to measure off of, then you have plenty of time to go get the dowl rods.

good idea with the wooden dowls! I would have never thought of that. Anyone know where to get the MORE valve spring compression tool?

Don't know about the More tool, but Vinci designed the Crane valve spring compressor and still sells it. Here is a link. Best tool I have ever used for this with the heads on the car. Link to Vinci Valve Spring Tool

If you make them about 3 inches longer than your valve cover you should be good
