Default Good 'Ole LS1 ticking

I have a cam only 02 camaro with bolt ons. i did the cam 15,000 miles ago with duel springs and 7.425 push rods. ive been using royal purple oil since the cam swap. i did an oil change today with Valvoline full synthetic. drove it for 15 minutes and started hearing a tick. not really noticeable at idle but i can really hear it at 1500-2000 rpm. mostly in the car. im wondering if this is just normal excessive valve train noise or a collapsed lifter? original lifters with 122,xxx miles on them. car runs fantastic with no signs of missing. going to pull the valve covers off sunday. let it be a rocker or valve spring plz!!

How loud is your ticking? Do you have to lean into the engine bay to really hear it? Or is it loud and clear?

Going through the same, the night it happened it was pretty quiet, really had to listen to hear it. I started it up after pulling the drivers side valve cover and finding nothing, and it was much louder since it was 20 degrees outside.

Pulling the heads soon once I can get my buddy to help push it in the garage

Keep the thread updated we can help each other find whatever it is. Like you said I'm praying for a spring or rocker.

I'm still stock everything internals wise. If I have anything wrong inside the head I was just going to switch to some stock 243s with stock components till I swap the cam.

Took the valve covers off and could not find anything loose or broken. springs look great and i turned the motor slowly by hand and tried to push the rocker arms backwards towards the push rods to see if there was a collapsed lifter. I have nothing. My only guess would be a weak lifter possibly? At this point im going to wait till it gets louder or breaks.

Could be a header or exhaust leak.

It was after you changed the oil? Throw some Rotella-T in there and see if it quiets it down.

i think i might update the lifters. 122xxx on stock lifters now. think it might be time? The longer i run the engine the more i hear it. Now all of a sudden at idle my oil pressure jumps between 35-40 psi. its never done that before
