Yes, they help quieten the top end a decent bit. Not required but I prefer it with them.

Got to agree with thunderstruck507 ! It also helps cut down on dust, dirt, and debris, from getting under the intake manifold.

You think I can make these with high density foam from a crafts store?

I don't see a problem doing that, just try to use something about the same thickness as the factory pads that also compresses easily like the factory pads. Keep in mind the temperatures an humidity range it'll be exposed to.

I did not know that. Learn something everyday.

I ended up not using anything. I couldn't find a substitute. Haven't started car. We will have to see what it sounds like

I called a few people locally and I called speed inc. No one seemed to be using any replacement pads. They install the fast without anything. So I guess I gambled.

Fel-Pro has them in a intake manifold port seal kit.

I had a guy helping me last night and we just didn't have the foam pads.

Being my first install I relied on just opinions and took the majority

I now feel like the majority opinion on the forum is to use the pads, but around me it was that it isn't necessary.

I guess I will have to start the car and decide for myself. I think I'm past the point of no return now. It's bolted on and fuel rails and harness is connected. I would have finished if it wasn't for the coolant bypass.

Would you guys go back to square one and yank it off ?

I have never used foam pads on my 102 and haven't noticed a difference in noise from the factory intake. I wouldn't waste my time on it.

I have ran both with and without foam pads. You won't hear a difference, the induction noise will usually mask any noise up there. But quite a lot of **** will get underneath there. Just don't knock any of it into the intake ports when you pull it next.

Mine came with the intake gaskets so I put them on when I replaced them, but this was also during a cam swap. I assume they were helping but maybe it was solely the switch from the Comp XE cam to the EPS lobed cam that made things quieter.

There used to be a lot of hollow tapping sounds that were not there with the stock ls1 intake but were there after the Fast went on. It was very noticeably louder and at the time it did not have pads.

Either way, I had them so I used them.

Unless you're really bored, don't worry about the foam pads. The pads do help, but it's not going to make any radical difference worth removing the intake manifold again.
