Default 5.3l l33 noise diagnosis

I have a 2005 sierra 227,000 and just recently started ticking constantly. Have checked manifolds rockers flywheel and torque converter. Just changed oil, oil filter shows no metal. Has good oil pressure but noise is consistent through out rpm range. I'm thinking lifters but would like input before I tear into it.

If it is the lifters do this 1st before tearing into it. New oil change with 1 quart of regular cheap dextron3 replacing 1 quart of 5-w30 oil. Run it for a couple of hundred miles and I guarantee it will fix the lifters if they are gummed up and not priming up fully.

Its lifter noise, easy fix. Buy a qt of Dexron vi ATf, put 10ozs or so in and drive it 100 miles or so then add the rest of the qt. Should quiet them quickly.

I did ATF already. Even done the b12 down the push rods. Seems to have made it a little worse. I can hear it crusing at 50 in the cab.

You need to figure out what lifter it is and go from there. Turn it over by hand until you find the pushrod that has slack in it when the valve is closed. Try the B12 down the pushrod again and let it sit a while maybe get a air blower with the rubber tip and force air down the pushrod holding it tight against the lifter cup. Maybe that will force the blockage back out the lifter after the B12 dissolves it and allow the lifter to prime up again.

How long did you let the ATF in? If you look in the valve covers does the engine look very dirty? If ATF doesn't help its time to replace them BUT at that mileage i'm guessing the reason you are having trouble is too much crap built up in the engine. It will block the new lifters quickly. The ATF should put all that crap in suspension so the oil filter can trap it.

Try at least a qt for a few thous miles before you give up. I've had good luck with it.

Thanks for the replies. Truck started having low oil pressure on cold starts a little before this noise started. Ended up dropping oil pan and replacing pick up oring ever since then it's started. Bottom end was extremely clean and top end looked good for miles. I ran ATF for probably 400 miles with no change and also did engine flush.

Oh geez....I can tell you Exactly what's wrong, THE ORING is letting air into the oil. The air gets into the lifters and causes the tapping you are hearing. Its either tore or the wrong size etc.You must replace the oring properly to stop this noise.....NOTHING ELSE WILL FIX IT. Get the right oring and be sure to use a light grease or something like stp to install it. Good Luck
