Default Comp 26915 Valve springs and 231/237?

The specs I collected from the 915's are.....

Installed Load 105lbs@1.800"
Open Load 293lbs@1.200"
Spring Rate 313lbs/in
Coil Bind Hight 11.085"
Outside Diameter 1.290"/1.060"
Inside Diameter .885"/.656"

Rated to 0.625" lift and 7500rpm.

I had a set of 915's installed a few months back to replace the stock springs because we suspected a few of them were weak. Would the Comp 915's accomidate a TSP 231/237 Cam? I believe the lift specs on that cam are .598/.595. I've heard nothing but good about the 231/237 Cam and I would like to install one in the near future. Would be great if I could avoid changing out valve springs if it is not neccessary.

Thanks in advance.

Ross

Edit: PS: Also found a pdf with the specs of both the 915's and 918's

No, I wouldn't use those... the bare minimum I would use would be the 918s, and even that is pushing it.

When I bought my TSP 231/237 cam kit, I also bought the Patriot gold dual springs to go with it, which was recommended to me... it's worth the piece of mind, IMO.

The 915's are weaker than the 918's and I would not risk my engine if I were you!!! A spring upgrade is very much needed with the TSP 231 cam. For peace of mind go with a good dual spring like the Patriot Gold Duals or the Crane Duals. MHO

Don't risk a huge and expensive "Ooops" by going $100 bucks cheaper on your springs. Just not worth it, especially since you're going to be there anyway (w/ the cam swap). IMHO of course.

as stated above go with a set of duals, we have been very impressed with the patriot duals and will be starting to use those on our heads in the near future. any of the duals will work though.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Out of curiousity is there a cam out there that would produce similar gains to the TSP cam with less lift? I have heard something about a Futral cam that has produced similar results with less lift.

If the general view is the 915's are all together junk, I will deffinately pull them out when it comes time for a cam install. If a cam with lesser lift can be used with these springs safely, I'd rather go that route. The springs have about 600 miles on them at this point.

Thanks Again

Ross

Although the Futral cams might have less lift than the TSP 231/237, the lobes are more aggressive so they'll put the same (if not more) stress on the valve springs... for the type of cam you're talking about, I wouldn't mess around, go straight to the duals.

Otherwise, if you want to stick with the single spring (especially since they're 915s and not 918s) I wouldn't go higher than a .56x lift. With 918s, .58x or so would be ok.

I would definately run the Patriot doubles. I don't think the 915s will be enough spring for long term use.

RPM in Lewisville, TX. has some 232/236 grinds that are similar and have less lift. I believe FMS does as well.

Thanks again everyone.

Trevor, I see that you sell the 231/237 in a package with the Patriot Valve springs. Does that package come with the neccessary gaskets or do those need to be bought separate? Also, Is is possible to order the Cam Package without the pushrods? I already have a set.

Thanks

Ross

I've got an old man cam 216/220 .525/.532 and I used the 915's. I have had no issues and the reason that I got them was that I didn't want any valve train stress and haven't had any. However I do have float at 6,000+ RPM's. Do not use these springs with the cam you are considering, get duals 977's or my preference 978's.
