What cam for my mods
What cam would you guys recommend for my car (mods in sig....my torque converter was stalling to 4000 unlocked) i wanted to try to keep heads stock and rear end stock. I looked at the T-rex and G5X3 cam but they recommend bigger gears. I was thinking of running nitrous later on 100-150 wet shot.
Thanks
Thanks

Is the tsp cam good on motor to. What size gear could i get away with using this cam. The reason i wanted to use my stock rear and heads is that i wanted to stay on a budget. Plus i haven't had any problems with it(knock on wood)

I think you'll be over cammed with your set up and the TSP 231/237 cam. Just my opinion. The TSP 231/237 should really have some 4:10's (or close to that) and a set of stage 2 heads with it.
What are your goals? Street car, race car? Little of both?
With wanting to keep your gears and heads while working with your existing converter I believe you'll have a much better running car if you look for something in the low 220 duration. I would suggest a B1 or C1 from MTI or a TR220 or TR224 (max) from Thunder. My basis for this recommendation is low end torque, the lower duration cams will make better torque for your 3:23 gears.
Bigger is not always better, but take that with a grain of salt, I'm a small cam guy. Some feel completely opposite.
Good luck.

I'm going to be runnin a 231/237 on stock heads with stock gears. I don't feel wasting my money on weaker gears only to smash them to bits is worth it, just for drivability. I'll be ok. Bigger gears DO help the car out tho. With you, if you go with the 231/237 I'd think about gettin your TC restalled to like a 3600. That will also help with a cam that size. Any cam will work well on the bottle, as long as the shot is 150 or less. Once you go beyond that, then look for a cam with more exhaust duration then intake(like the 231/237).

i have the tsp/comp cam 228/228 .588 on a 112* with a nx 150 on stock heads and am very pleased.from 2000rpms on up it has more power than when stock.and you don't have to turn 7k to max it out.if you plan to get a set of ported heads later the 231/237 would probably be better.the 231/237 does make awesome hp on stock heads too tho.

I would like a little of both street/race car. The only problem is is that if i buy a cam kit we'll say $700 i think from tsp and them a decent nitrous kit $900, that would be 1600 plus tune $500=$2100. If i buy a rear end with a gear it'll cost about $2500. The install i can do myself i'm just trying to put my money in the right places.

If you ever put on slicks, the stock rear end won't last long at all, especially if you did a cam and nitrous. I think you could get by though as long as you don't do anymore than nittos. How long, i don't know.

I have to agree, with nitrous or any "big" mods (heads or cam or both) you are looking at reducing the life of an already weak piece of the puzzle, your rear end. I would start saving for a nice 12 bolt with diff gears to take advantage of that cam (or similar cams) so that when that 10 bolt blows, you are prepared for it. Just my humble $.02
