Do Any pre-2001 ls1 Come Have the Upgraded Rod Bolts?
I just found out my 2000 ls1 has the later 2001 241 heads. Any chance that it has the better rod bolts of the 2001 ls1's?

I just pulled this from GM Performance parts online
Therefore 2000 and up have the stronger rod bolts.
12568734 Rod, Connecting, 1997-03
This connecting rod is used on all 1997-2003 production Corvettes and Camaros.
Technical Notes: 12568069 — LS6 Rod Bolts — These rod bolts have increased strength over all pre-2000 model year Gen 3 rod bolts. Recommended for use in all performance Gen 3 engines.

Does pre 2000 mean excluding or including 2000? Anyway to verify with serial numbers? From searching it looks like the bolts were upgraded in 2001.

wonder why they waited so long to put them into production vehicles.

So just to clarify for my own knowledge... this means that '00-'02 cars have upgraded rod bolts, meaning they're capable of spinning to higher revs without grenading? If anyone is very familiar with the subject, how high would you suppose one of these later motors could spin without requiring upgraded rod bolts (curious about the trex powerband)...

I have only heard of the 01-02 cars having these stronger rod bolts. Its not an easy task changing the bolts from what i have seen, especially if the motor is still in the car. Its all on whether you feel you need to change them, because of mods coming/on the car or due to mileage.

I am kinda looking at it as insurance. I hear the two weak points are the rod bolts and oil pump.
I drive the **** out of my car. I thought replacing these two things might help it live longer. I hear horror stories about the two going out but I don't know "really" how often it happens.

I have a 98 and was going to do arp rod bolts but heard that they require resizing. So I said I was just going to leave them alone, but reading this would ls6 rod bolts be worth swapping into my 98?

Louis from LG Motorsports took a 98 Shortblock to 7100 daily and 7400 a couple of times on the dyno with 117,000 miles on it... I believe he said it was still running in a project car of his
But on another note I see plenty of threads of guys spinning a bearing with bigger cams like the G5X3,G5X4,MS4, MS3 and TREX that require being ran out 6800-7200 .... My only question is with 100,000-200,000 users on this board if we only see 10-20 threads a year about spinning a bearing maybe the odds are in our favor
Who knows in my case I think the 4L60 will go before my shortblock does
Seems like to me for every guy that had something go wrong theres 20 people with it working out just fine....

The newer rod bolts are the ones with the ferrules, my late year 2000 T/A with 241 heads had the newer bolts. Unfortunately I didn't find this out until I was pulling the rod bolts to replace them with ARP's.
