Default good cam for my setup?

Hey guys,
I'm just looking for some opinions on what cam would work well with my setup. Right now I'm looking at a XER 224/230 .581-.588 114. I want to make sure I get a cam that is going to work well with my vig 3800 stall. I would like to know about this cam but am open to other suggestions you might have. My goal is to be in at least the high 11s in the 1/4. I also want the car to have a noticable cam sound, but still be able to idle without dying on me all the time. I don't want to have to change my springs more then every 20k miles. 918s are what I plan to use. All my mods are in my sig.
Thanks for any info.

something like that on a 112 would sound good and have good enough street manners as to not worry about any stalling issues whatsoever...with the right gears i dont see 11's being a problem at all either. Personally Id get dual springs with a cam like that...918s would work and probably work well but for the added piece of mind, for the price of duals nowadays its worth the extra $.

if you want high 11's i'd go with something on a 112 as well, the converter will give the cam better street manners

i have a few used cams for sale that you might be interestested in that would go well with your setup....shoot me a pm if your interested

Do you want to stay on stock heads? If so, I'd recommend something with a reverse split, which is what I'm going to do. 111 or 112 LSA would be good as well. Not the easiest to tune, but sounds amazing, has good driveability, and puts down good power. The cam I want, the TR230 (230/224, .575/.563, 111 LSA) has made 410 rwhp and 390 rwtq on stock heads, with bolt-ons/exhaust. Good luck and let me know what you choose.

Thanks for the suggestions so far. bowtie4life, I pm'd you. bull99ls1, Ive been reading that the reverse splits arn't usually a good choice for the ls1, but not sure. I don't really understand why to choose reverse split or regular split? My exhaust is about as free flowing as it gets with my cutout open. As far as intake, its not bad. I have the stock throttle body with the bump stop dremeled down and ls6 intake. So maybe a after market tb might help. With my vig 3800 I was thinking a cam that makes the most power in the 4000-6500 rpm range would work well. Any more ideas? With a little technical info on why, would be great.
Thanks again.

If you are going to do a just straight N/A or maby a 100 shot than a revers split is the way to go. If you want to run bottle most of the time at the track or all the time i would go with a single pattern or a standerd split. I have ran a 224/230 on a 112 and that some bitch was mean. (old school G5 cam) I love my 228/228 cam and it makes great power every where. Just need to slap the gears in. I say go with your cam or something close and you will be very happey.

Thanks goober, thats the kind of info I was looking for. I am thinking about a 100-150 shot after the cam is in and running good. I think I will go with something in the 224/230 range with 112lsa. The only other thing I'm not sure about is how much lift I should go with. If I go with dual springs what lift will the springs last 20k miles with? Does more lift = more power? I think the other cam I was looking at may have too much lift. Anyone feel like sharing some thoughts on lift?

I would stay under .590 on the lift especially so you don't wear out the springs so fast. The xer lobes will wear springs though. Make sure and check some at 15k or 20k.

I have having a 226/230 XE 114 cam install this week by Mike Norris. I am going CAM only and hope for some nice power gains with zero issues with drivability. Send me PM early next week and I will tell you my results.

Those are all good,if you are going to spray I"d go with a standard split.224 to 230 on the duration and say .580 lift,I would talk to Allan Futral (FMS) Maybe the XE- lobes are not the best choice for max spring life??Go with the 112 LSA too.
