Default OEM LS1 main bearing clearance - some very general q's

I have occasionally heard folks say that "ls1's are set up loose from the factory" but I was wondering if anyone could compare ls1 bearing clearances stock vs say modern imports and also old SBC's. I know that our daily driver Acura TL has tighter clearances and is spec'd for 5w20, as are a number of Honda engines. But what about LS1 and LS2 stuff? Extra points if you are specific in terms of measurements.

Those are the oem specs for the ls1 that I found in JRP's faq. Still working on the others.

My mains have always been .0015 to .002, OEM bearing and crank. I run the rods about the same, but with clevite 663H's

5w30 oil

No need for heavy oil.

So Matt you run tight bearing clearances? Is that what I should infer?

with my crappy ring stack, i usually blow the tension out of the rings in 20 to 30 passes

The bearings have always looked new Flash coat still on the rods and machining grooves still in the mains.

Every other ring swap would be a bearing change.

last time around though, an exploding lifter caused a full replacement.

Do you coat your bearings, do you believe in that?

What ring pack are you using? What kind of hone job? Do you know what stone is being used on your block?

I've got a wierd bore size and ring thickness. So unless I have them special made, I'm stuck w/ a classic race set for a 327 SBC from total seal. Or a gapless set. Nobody makes a good ring until you get to 4" bore in a 1/16,1/16,3/16 stack.

The material just can't take the heat.

No coatings.

They've been all over from .004xbore to .006xbore, and tried some gapless. Gapless seemed to atleast keep things consistant instead of getting looser and slower When it smokes, it's time for rings

Getting back to the original question, looks like LS1 engine are set up pretty tight?
