Default broke intake valve spring

Okay just got my ls1 conversion running really good drove today parked it got back in it a couple hours later to give my brother in law a drive in it. well did a full throttle run and bam it started missing then came to a stop it died started back up listen to exhaust sounded like ****. well the vacume gauge was dancing like crazy. So thought it was valve train problems brought it home and the intake valve spring is broken on number3. somoke was coming from my air filter pulled it off and it was oil smelling coming from the intake. Changing valve spring tomorrow with a single stock one to get the truck around. it has a f1 cam .591 lift, fully ported ls1 heads. my ? is do you think i messed anything else up the valve did not drop. why did the oil start smoking from my intake? will the piston and rings be fine? thanks for any help and which new springs do you guys recommend has to be double valve springs though. right now i have the lunati good up to .610 i believe.

Those are some good questions you will only answer by taking the head off! However the chances you messed up either the valve, head, block, or piston, or all of the above is pretty good!

yeah **** the single spring install, id take the heads off completely and make sure your problem doesnt follow down further towards the bottom end.

If you have access to a boroscope, you might be able to get a quick read on damage.

okay put a stock spring in its place for this moment until new ones arrive. started it up drove down the street never really got down on it. it seems to be alright running smooth. What do you guys think of the patriot dual valve springs?

They are great springs. I haven't heard of a failure of one yet.

any of the above springs mentioned will work fine, I have PRC and they seem to be pretty good.
Are you using a STOCK LS1 spring w/ .591 lift? That sucker isn't going to last very long at all. I wouldn't be driving it. Hopefully I just read that wrong.

so will the springs with good up to .650 lift be to much and wear my cam out faster or will my lifters compensate for it. .591 lift is what i have. so you guys suggest the patriot dual valve springs. Do i need the golds or are they the same? thanks for all the help

but i have a aftermarket cam not stock so the stock cam doesnt bind the spring as much as the f1 cam. So i need to know how those springs would do in a cammed car. the vinci springs.

http://www.vincihighperformance.com/...%20LS1%202.htm here's a listing of every cam that they sell and use the springs on. here's the spring specs.

VHP DUAL VALVE SPRING KIT
112lbs @ 1.800
352lbs @ 1.150
will handle .650 lift with .045 coil clearance

but your question was about .650 lift springs hurting your .591 cam or lifters. if, it's not hurting my stock cam and lifters, then it definately isn't going to harm your cam or lifters either. i would stand more of a chance hurting the cam or lifters, than you would. i have way more spring pressure than the stock cam requires.
and right off their site. ALL OF OUR .551 LIFT CAMS WILL FIT WITH STOCK PISTONS AND OUR 1.8 ROCKERS which basically i'm getting at even with larger ratio rockers, which speed up the valve, it's not going to be a problem.

You don't want a spring maxed out on lift or close to. Most all the duals have about the same spring pressures open and closed. I would go with the patriots as they are great springs and come with super 7 locks to avoid dropping a valve.
