Default 212/218 115 Lsa

Hello All,

Anyone try the Comp 212/218 .558 .563 115 LSA? Just trying to gather some info on HP and 1/4 mile gains. Driving impressions?

What I'm trying to do is find a cam that has the same or a little more HP than the LS1 cam in the 1000-3500 RPM range and a modest gain in the 3500+ range. Something that will net me a 3+MPH gain in the 1/4. I know there are "better" cams out there such as the TR224 etc. but keep in mind I still have a stock rear end and clutch and I need to pass CA smog as well.

Anyway, here are the cams I'm looking at:

204/218 .551 .547 117.5 (LS6)
214/230 .600 .578 117 (CheaTR)
212/218 .558 .563 115 (Comp)

The Comp 212/218 cam is a great one, especially with the faster lobes you've listed. All three cams will meet your goals. Other good cams to add to the list are the LPE GT2-3 207/220 cam and some of the smaller Vinci cams.

Thanks Patrick!
I called the Comp Tech Line and the dude didn't seem to know much about what they were selling. He basically was quoting right out of the catalog and when I asked him about the power increase; he said that he couldn't say. Needles to say, I was a little put-off by this.

Don't be too hard on the techie from Comp, he has to know a little about everything. You'd really be better off talking to one of our many sponsors who know EVERYTHING about LS1s. Thunder, MTI, LG, FMS are all LS1 specialists. If I named all the other great shops, this thread would be too long, LOL. Bottom line, find a dealer you trust and have them work you up something. They'll usually stand behind their recommendation. Something you won't see Comp doing.

It's a pity you live in California. I'd let you drive my vette to see if the 214/230 Cam suited your needs.

I've got the comp 220/224/.563-114+4. Good cam, will pass smog, should act the same down low as the ones you mentioned(you can't tell seat of the pants), but will give more than the others up top. If you're going through the trouble, do something you can feel and won't grow out of soon. I've had this cam for two months and already I want more. The only problem is that if I were to go a lil' bigger (224/228 or 228/231) it wont be a whole lot more than what I have to tell a difference (not a good value for $ or time)
If I were you I'd get the cam I have or even a bit bigger, keep the LSA at 114+ and you should have NO problem with cali smog.
Save for a new or used turbo or blower, smog legal and much better than N/A!

Thanks everyone!

Patrick,

You are correct regarding our sponsors. I spoke with Shane @ Thunder and he seems to really know what he's talking about. He answered all my questions and had some good recommendations.

Utohcop,

Don't be surprised if come knockin' on your door. I hear Southwest has some good deals on flights these days. hehe

Firehawk #608,

What kind of gains did you see with your cam?

Do you have numbers/track times on your cam install? (I noticed you installed the cam before the LTs...)

Well I've never dyno'd the car. I just got the tuner two days ago... I'd say the cam added 25-30hp? When I go to the big Fbody gathering (G9) in Atlanta this weekend I plan on dynoing it there. I'm hoping to have 375 hp at the wheels. Saving for forced induction.... must have!

I wish i could post my Graph but you can thank the GF for killing the scanner.

With my 214/230.. My Torque Peak's at 4800 and the Horsepower peaks at 6200. My 99 LS1 exhaust manifold's aren't helping very much and i should gain alittle more with going to Pacesetter Shorties.

Just had the Comp Cams 216/220, 114 LSA +2 XR269HR installed along with 2003 LS6 heads, LS6 intake, LS6 injectors and Dynatech longtubes with high flow cats and X-pipe in my 2000 A4 Vette. 376 rwhp and 375 rwt, SAE corrected and smoothed (peaks were higher). I was not too concerned with peak numbers for a short band at the top end, but rather substantial increases in power and torque everywhere "under the curve". Absolutely great drivability and mucho power everywhere. I love it!

Default What about this combo

Hi All: Has anybody tried the 212/218 558/563 115 Comp Cam with Crane 1.8 rockers and Crane dual springs. Correct me if I am wrong wouldn't the higher ratio rockers raise the power band of the cam from 1700-6700 to like 2000-7000 RPM? Should be reliable and be Ok for idle and emissions. Would need little or no tuning and should still make good torque down low and rev to the moon?
