Default 5.3 heads question

how does the flow of stock 5.3 heads compare to the flow of stock LS1 heads? i know the compression bump would help me out, but im currious about if the flow #s are diffrent. also where is a good place to have 5.3 heads ported fairly cheaply?

Stock 5.3 heads have smaller intake valves than ls1 heads. Once you replace them you get the benefit of higher compression due to the smaller cc in the head chamber. That is the real benefit in using them.

Patriot heads right now will do those heads for $1095 I believe. If you ship them your heads they will credit you $150-200. Cnc'd heads that have the works done to them with all new quality valvetrain. That is a pretty smoking deal.

Switching from a stock LS1 head to a stock 5.3 head is a waste.
The main benifit of the 5.3 head is compression as said above.
You can get the same compression out of LS1 heads by milling them.
If your not running a huge cam milling wont hurt you.
TEA and PP both offer stage 1 heads for less then 1000 dollars.
Also you can sometimes find a real nice set of used heads for cheep.

There is little to gain in a valve size change unless you ratio the seat throat and bowl for the valve. Not to mention a GOOD multi angle valve job. Make sure the bowl holds about a 1.820 clearance down to the valve guide and tapers larger as it goes into the runner. PM me if any of you have questions.

We can port them for around $1225.00 with our gold .650" lift springs and titanium retainers. The reason we like the 5.3 head is the small chamber (for compression) and the runners are small so there is extra metal in the port so we can shape it exactly how we want it. The last few sets we've done have all flowed 317-318-319!!

Our stage II 5.3 heads are 100% CNC ported using new GM castings, with 2.02"/1.57" REV stainless valves, Patriot Gold Dual Springs, Ti retainers, Super 7 Locks, Machined Spring Bases, Custom Honed Bronze Guides, and Viton Rubber seals for $1,095.00 per pair, no exchange. BTW, this price does include MLS GM head gaskets and New OEM head bolts.
