Default New Rod Bolts...Should I?

I am half way through installing my heads/cam. Since I have the engine apart I am really considering going with some new rod bolts since my car is a 98 and all and the stockers are not know to handle that much RPM. My question is; how hard are they to install w/out pulling the engine? difficutly of the install? and is it worth doing? I plan on spinning my engine to 6600 - 6700 or so. Will the stockers hold up? I am not planning on beating up on my car either...maybe only a couple trips to redline every month. If so I am going to go with the Katechs... I am just worried about the difficulty of the install and if they can be installed w/ the motor still in car.

Also any install documents for this?

Appreciate any help.

You'd have to drop the oil pan to get to the rod bolts, so it would be a tight fit putting them on there with the engine still in the car. I'm assuming it can be done though, I wouldn't personally know though as I've never installed a set. You'd have to have some contortionist skills though. Here's a TTT for you, Kory.

i have a 98 as well with stock internals. I was wondering the same question. How hard is it to do with the engine still in the car and as far as the katech rod bolts that is what i am going with also. The question i had is do you do one bolt at a time or go ahead and just pull both bolts off and the cap also and then replace both bolts at the same time ? Didnt mean to hijack the thread lithium but i am wondering the same thing as well

Drop the pan and do one bolt at a time. Once the pan is off it is easy. I did the Katech bolts at the same time I did the K Member. In car swap was easy.

I have been spinning mine to 6800 for awhile now without any issues. My next mod though is a bmr K-member & rod bolts. Just for peace of mind.

Shold I just hold off on the install for later? Is it really worth it to risk it?

Hey, thanks for the response.

Whats your take on these in terms of installing them with the motor in car? How long of an install is this swap normally?

Thanks.

We really don't do these in the car. Not because it can't be done, but because we usually have the engine out anyways. I guess the best thing to do is ask some of the people on LS1tech that have done it. It looks like some have posted already and it doesn't seem that difficult.
