Default front cover install question

getting ready to install front cover....there is a black line of silicone where the cover meets the oil pan.

I am not sure if this is part of the oil pan gasket or just excess silicone that needs to be removed

It's made into the gasket. Leave it alone.

Read the procedure for the front cover and pan installation. You'd be surprised how many steps GM wants you to do to get it their way.

Ya, I have the service manual and it is very involved and uses a couple of fixtures.

It also assumes that the engine is out of the car.

I'll stick with JMX's write up on that one!
