Default Stock 99 Oil pump -> TSP ported oil pump = LOST 10 PSI?!?!

What gives? I lost 10-15 PSI at idle with this thing once it warms up, idling at 700 rpm. It shoots back up quick when I hit the gas, its close to 50 by 2000 rpm. I'm not worried about it because of that and I know the 30 psi it has at 700 rpm is more than enough, I'm just kinda confused. Do you think I messed the rubber o ring up?

I have ported pumps in both of mine, and I never really noticed a difference I guess. Keep in mind some of the BB Chevy's have 10 psi at idle...we are blessed!

Lol, no I'd like to avoid that if possible seeing as its 1000x more a pain in the *** in a C5 than an F-body!

Lol, after 4 4th gen F-bodies I don't need to see the back, I can feel my way around! I would honestly rather have it be easier to take apart in the front. The steering rack SUCKS!

I lost about 5 psi from my thunder racing ported oil pump

I am hearing this more and more lately.

A bigger opening will lower pressure if you think about it. But I guess it would improve overall flow/efficiency. I guess it would be a trade off.

Or maybe the ported pumps are down on pressure at low rpms (idle) and perform better at higher rpms, which would also add up.

i ported my 6.0 one myself and seen a gain of psi at idle

with a ported oil pump all they really do is smooth out the one edge of the pump to make it flow better then it currenty does. for the amount of work it takes its not worth the extra money when you can do it in about 10minutes of your time with the pump off the motor

This is true, I don't exactly need 40-50 psi at idle. I feel better now, thanks guys!

i believe that these aftermarket oil pumps have higher spring pressure on the oil bleed-off spring. i think that they are trying to increase oil volume and not necessarily oil pressure.
having high oil pressure will steal hp and will increase wear on your engine's bearings and stuff, so its probably not a bad thing that you lost alittle pressure.

It could be that your stock pump had higher than normal spring pressure to begin with, I know my 2000 LS1 has high oil pressure with the stock pump. The O-ring in the C5's isn't as hard as the f-body's, I doubt you messed it up.

I have a TSP ported pump, and the motor has never held the oil pressure I would like. 30 at warm idle is normal. Next time it is apart the spring is getting shimmed.

I've heard that shimming will is good but how is it done?

Nevermind, I did a search and found the needed info.
