Default Camshaft install tool??

I was going to order this from Thunder Racing, but they are out. What have you guys done to get the hydraulic lifters in place while you take the cam out?? I don't just want to let friction hold them in place. I was thinking about the pen magnet idea, but I'd really like that tool. Does anyone know what diameter that tool is? I was thinking about just using some round rod? Any ideas on what to do?

I am 99% sure you use a 22" long 5/16" dia. wooden dowel that you can buy from any Home Depot, or you can just ruin the broom you already have.

It must be a very small broomstick. 5/16" wooden dowell is the way to go.

Sorry, I am only 4'6", so I have a small broom.

Seriously, any cut to fit 5/16" diameter stick will work, wood or metal.

5/16 steel rod will need to be ground down to work on the pass side. At least this was the case with the cars i've done so far. I've heard brake line works better.

I definitely dont recommend WOODen dowels...Get the metal...They wont snap..I did have to shave off the passenger dowel on one side to give it a flat spot to slide it in...Once in i turn them to look them in place. Both of mine are sharpened on the end going into the motor to a point...

agreed, if that wooden dowel breaks your screwed, then you have to do a whole lot more since youll have wood shavings in your motor now.

luckily for me the guy who produced them JPR installed my cam and valvetrain.

worst case senario (spelling) get metal dowels

I bought a 5ft section of 5/16 brake line from the local auto parts store for 6 bucks cut it down to like 24 inches i believe and stuck it in there worked perfect. Make sure you use a little oil on it, it goes in better.
