Default 225 heads with stock bottom end?

I currently have a cam/bolt-on LS1 making 420 to the wheels (probably slightly less with the high flow cats back in it now). My cam specs out at 230/236, .551/.551.

I have a set of ARE heads with 2.08 valves, 225cc intake runners, and 62 cc chambers that I'd like to install, but I'm not sure if this is too much head for my setup. I'm sure it would gain on the top end, but will it totally kill my bottom end? Does anyone have any experience with a setup similar to this? Also, will the 2.08 valves be too big for my motor?

If I can't use them them now I might sell them or I might hold on to them for a stoker froject in the future.

Thanks!

2.08 valves are defentially big for your setup. 225 isn't to big, and I can hardly believe that the head you have is only 225cc's. I would guess it's closer to 240cc's unless you have already measured the actural cc of the head.
What you have is what most companies call a stage 3 head. IMO your better off with a smaller runner(guessing that the heads you have now are bigger then you think) and smaller valves.

I just got my dart 225 and had them ported by a friend. They flowed like a SOB and the runner on them now are close too a 235cc and the darts have a 2.05/1.60 valves. I also have a smaller cam 224/224 and i am running stock cubes. I have also talked too many people at different places including a friend that works at LPE and they all agree the heads will be just fine matter of fact they said they will be badass!!! But thats my opinion and everybody has there own. FYI most 243 head that are ported are close to a 240+cc runner just too let you know.
Peace rob

I had them CC's at a local machine shop so I know that the sizes are right. If I decide to use them then I'll have them assembled and flowed. Will the 2.08 valves be physically too big for my bore? Possible piston clearance problems? Will the 62 cc chambers affect my compression ratio too much?

I'm really tempted to try and run them because I already have them , so it wouldn't really cost too much (I'd do the install myself).

Thanks for the info/advice!

Anyone with an answer to the 2.08 valve working with a stock bore question?

Thanks

No i dont think you can, the side of the valve makes contact with the deck.

2.08 is way to big IMO. I would say 2.02 to 2.05 on the intake and 1.57 to 1.60 is plenty of valve for a 346. I think that 2.08 would be overkill. That will hurt your port velocity which will affect your power curve and torque numbers. I would suggest going to a smaller valve.

Although 2.08" valves are on the big side for a 346, they can make excellent power (with the right port job). I happen to be quite fond of my box-stock AFR small bore 225s. They have a 229cc runner and a 2.08" intake valve but work well in my application. Power in signature.
