Default High Miler LS1

i was recently looking into purchasing an A4 Z28 with over 100,000 miles. with the high miles it is bound to be on its last legs. i was wondering, are there any good rebuilds for LS1s? normal driving cars with lots of miles can always have the motor rebuilt but i have yet to see any rebuilt LS1s.

my 1st post was kind of obscure. what i meant was, motors like LT1s can be rebuilt but when they do they often get upgrades kits like a 383stroker. my question is are there any upgrade kits for when it comes time to rebuild an LS1?

i have an ls1 with 130,000 just put a cam and stall in and it runs really strong. so your good for a while with the ls1. in think you can bore the ls1 barely but you might have to get a new block or new cylinder sleeves when you decide to rebuild.

I doubt the LS1 is on it's last legs. The LS1 seems to be the modern 5.0 in terms of being able to take abuse and run good well in to the 100k range, our TA has 104k on it. I put the mods on it at 92k or something like that i can't remember. I'm getting ready to put a bigger cam in next week.

I agree. I have 117K miles on my LS1 and it still has 40 PSI hot idle oil pressure.
It runs VERY strong. It could probably use a pushrod and valve spring change (a few mechanical over-revs).

The only parts that do get worn out are more like shocks, springs, bushings and driveline parts (M6 in my car, more abuse on driveline).

The tranny is more likely to go out(if an A4) before the motor!

my car has 130,000 police miles and then another 30k ontop of that for a grand total of 160,000.. that car is not "on its last leg" LS1s are really easy to rebuild

111k here.. bought it with 101k.. starting adding bolt ons about 5k ago.. trans let go at 106k (M6) just replaced shocks, bushing, ect.. car rips like no other..

100k+ is not that unusual for a ls1, as long as its has good oil pressure, and doesent make any rod noise when started, i wouldnt be worried about it, if your worried have a compression check done.

119k on mine didnt start getting into the motor until 96k with the cam and 108 with the heads.

111k Miles here and engine still runs pretty strong could use a new set of valve springs though. Still has great oil pressure.
Thought I would add this.
Dynoed 300 RWHP and 322 RWTQ at 109,000 miles on a Dynapack.
Oh ya and still has the original clutch.

122K miles here and she runs strong as new. Next month I'll be rebuilding the top end with new heads, cam, rods, lifters and coils. I just took my SS on a 2K mile trip and averaged 28 mpg for the trip.

108K and runs like a champ. Last time I had the heads off the cylinders still had all their crosshatch and didnt look worn at all, although I did not measure the bore.

I had a buddy buy one with 190K...yeah 190K miles. Did free mods and put a 100 shot on it and hammered it at the trrack for a while until he sold it and made $1500 profit. It ran low 12's.

got mine with 75k about 18 months ago.
now was 92k
and im not worries about it.
