Default Clueless about heads..! G5X3 C6

There's no shame in not knowing, the shame is in not asking.. To be honest I don't know much about cylinder heads.. I mean yeah, I know what they are and what they do but I don't have sufficient knowledge to determine what heads would suit my setup best..

I haven't purchased a F.A.S.T 90/90 yet either since I'd want to have that port-matched to the heads I will eventually get or maybe I won't even need one if I'm going for GM's L92 heads..

My 2005 A4 C6 has the following:

- LG LT Pro 1 3/4 (Catless) + 3" X-pipe
- G5X3 @ 114
- Halltech Stinger + CAI
- SLP 25% u/d pulley
- Vigilante 3500
- TransGo Shiftkit
- Other misc parts (trans cooler, 160 stat, upgraded valvetrain, pushrods, etc...)

This is more or less my DD, assuming no rainfall.. I don't want a dyno queen, I don't want a 9 second dragster.. All I want is a drivable beast on the street (z51 with a 3.15 rear-diff if that is of any help).. What heads would you purchase if you were in my place.. Also, will I benefit out of milling or flycutting!? If so, by how much will I have to mill/flycut..

In regard to this heads issue, I'm a total newbie so please please pretty please include supporting comments with your recommendation! I'd wanna know why you'd recommend a certain cylinder head over another..!

thanks in advance to all the LSx gurus out there..

I have been reading a lot of threads about different heads (yes it rhymes) and found that trickflows are putting down some mean power. They have very good low end and respond very well to porting. I would go with them, I just do not have the money.

Milling will raise your compression, but I wouldn't recommend it with your cam choice. Too much milling and you will have to fly cut your pistons. Which is something else I would never do to stock pistons. As it is: to each their own.

I am pretty sure there will be a number of others chiming in about the Trickflows.

I'm actually leaning towards the trickflows more than others... will the 64cc chamber size kill my performance if I ever consider a power-adder (tt or sc)!? And will I need anything other than the heads for the installation!?

BTW, I already have a dual-spring set (Patriot golds, rated upto .650" lift) that still haven't been installed on the motor yet.. Can I get the trickflows without the springs and save some $ !?

How does it compare to the L92 / L76 combo !?

Is there a reason for that? I see people say that, but they never have any good reason. Even nitrous guys use them, and the ringland goes well before the center of the piston. Help this guy know why or why not on a mod, instead of just what you'd do. Heck, I'd like to know what I'm in danger of, since I flycut mine!

AFR 205s milled with a Cometic .040, you should hit anywhere around 470+/- rwhp with tons of trq.

Here is a link to a C6 A4 buildup, small cam, but good results.

With the ET or TFS heads you'll have plenty of piston-to-valve clearance even if you mill them down a lot due to the rolled valve of those heads. The TFS 225s or ETP 225s would be my choice for a 4" bore - and I think the ETPs would be cheaper, but not by much (TFS heads+pushrods are $2420 + $380 for rockers and the ETPs are $2495 with rocker stands to use stock rockers + $130 for new 8.100" pushrods).

But, the AFR 205s with 59cc chambers from LG would also be really sweet with the G5X3, especially if you send them off to Mamo to be opened up for a 4" bore, but that'd cost more than either the TFS or ETP heads.

i gained 47hp adding the AFR205 heads to my car. the AFR is all over this site and it's easy to see they perform. the TFS head seems to be the new bad boy on the block,so far i have not seen anything yet to show me they are a tun better then AFR. i have seen a few more hp from the dyno #'s but nothing amazing yet.the more people who get them, the more results we will see. if not AFR's then do go with TFS for they are a top performer. at the track i spent lots of time stomping on cars with lower budjet ported heads. i also ran the g5x3 cam with my AFR's and it was a killer performer you get what you pay for. goodluck to ya.
