Default Car has to crank for a while to start (lifters not holding pressure)

Is there anything outside of preload that can cause this?

I have to crank for a bit, then it starts to hit and then starts up just fine
running the caddy lifters and 5w30

Please help!

Nick

Fuel pressure not holding in the rails could cause that. If it's leaking back down the lines to the tank it would take a couple seconds for the pump to get enough in the rails to fire up.

i agree w/ arctic. try cycling the key a few times to let the fuel pump prime. if it fires rights away, the fuel pump is to blame unless you have a fuel leak

I'm gonna say electrical/fueling issue rather than engine mechanical. How long do you have to crank before it fires?

try turning the key on and waiting for 3 seconds before you "crank" it. if it fires right up there is your problem. does it do the same if you cut it off & recrank it?

btw- i've seen a lot of cars with aftermarket fuel pumps do this, mine included. some worse then others.

Even if the lifters were bleeding off, the car would still start, it would just be noisy the first little bit.

Ok, I'll keep an eye on the fuel pressure gauge during lunch, it has the same LPE pump in the tank that it had before I put this new motor in and it didnt have this issue, so thats why I pointed to the lifters first.

thanks again for the help

Well, I cycled the key a few times and that was the problem, but this damn thing has ran for about 45min now and I never had to do the key cycle thing before, anyone have any ideas why it would be bleeding off?

02Z w/LPE pump

Thanks again for all the help

Some of the foreign cars have fuel accumulators which hold the fuel preasure constant. I am not sure if Pontiac does if so replace it because it is leaking past the diaphram and not holding preasure.
