Default LS6 Springs with 224/228 ok?

Well, just like the title says I was wondering if stock LS6 valve springs will support the comp cam 224/228 114 LSA cam? If not what valvesprings should I look at getting? I was thinking about the 918's but with all the terrible spring breaking stories floating around I might be looking at something else...

Thanks

What is the lift and style of lobe?????

LS6 springs can't handle a aggressive lobe or much more than .550 lift. So your answer will be no. I would look at a cheap double spring for a little insurance againt braking.

I would not use LS6 springs on anything other than a stock LS1 / LS6 cam.

It's 0.581/0.588 so it's well above the .550 lift that they are meant to handle it seems. I will look into a set of duals...

Thanks

Duals arent necessary for that cam. If you want to get them just for the added insurance, then by all means go for it. But otherwise, you will be fine with the 918's.

LS6 springs? Not a chance. 918's will do it, but lately there have been some issues with some recent batches. Id consider gold duals. Theyre not terribly expensive, and offer extra safety.

Or perhaps the batches were from last year when Comp had problems with the 918's???

I'd go with the 918's as you don't really want all of that extra weight in your valvetrain from the double spring, and they are certainly overkill for your application.

I got 918's to run with my 224/224 .581/.581 cam, but now I'm switching to the Patriot Gold duals. They are a better spring & there have been too many recent posts about 918's breaking since Comp changed things.

You can get a full Patriot gold dual spring kit from ws6store.com for $255 shipped.

Im sure they are, but its impossible to get anyone to admit to the problem, at least publically (youre a first). Its hard to recomment the 918s if its going to be luck of the draw. if comp comes right out and claims which batch numbers had problems and how to tell if the new spring you just bought are in the clear, then sure, 918s are a good choice.

Sorry for the threadjack.
