Default oil pump problem

i just got a new ls6 oil pump from thunder racing along with my new cam and springs, the box was a little messed up but i was not to worried about it but than when i got it open the box the oil pump was in was real messed up so i took the pump out and the cover had surface rust on it and so did the smaller gear inside the pump when i took the cover off the back of the cover also had surface rust. i do not think the pump is damaged but i dont know wether to use it or send it back let me know what you think

i would put some oil on it and try to rub off most of the rust if you can... i had the same thing on one of my installs, and 10k miles later the pump is still good...

post some pics if you can.

Send that crap back ASAP! You paid for new parts not rusted parts lol I would be furious if it was me. So IMO sent it back, the oil pump is vital!

i got it from thunder racing as the ported and shimed ls6 oil pump i think i will put some oil on it and take a fine meatel brush to it and if it does not come off realy easly i am going to send it back but the problem is the engine is on a dead line and i need to finish. i am going to call thow and ask if it is normal for thunder to send out rusty parts. it does **** me off but it sounds like it might be a frequent problem witch realy makes me mad.

well I JUST got a ls6 pump and it had rust on the inside "ring" , just surface rust but rust is rust to me

does anyone know if the melling or other oil pumps HAVE rust? i'm about to send this one back and get a refund and order one of those even though it is pricier

I got my ported LPE high volume pump from LPE, not even a hit of rust. I would have been skeptical if i found rust on the heart of my engine.
