Si5 install completed
Finally we got the cam/spring swap finished Sunday morning and I absolutely LOVE how the car sounds!! All that hard work and frustration paid off. I can’t thank my b/f enough for all the sweat and swear words that went into getting the car to where it is now I helped as much as I could and have bruises to prove it
We were installing gauges at the same time which caused some delays due mainly the sending unit. We weren’t able to hook up the oil pressure one due to needing another kit to remote mount the autometer sender unit since it’s too big and wont allow the intake the seat properly. I ran out of money on this project so it will have to be hooked up later. I decided to remove all the A/C stuff since I rarely use it and it would free up a lot of space.
Anyway the car sounds AWESOME and couldn’t be happier with it !! We didn’t have any trouble with it wanting to stall during the first start up and everything went smoothly. We took it out for a test drive Sunday night and again.. I LOVE IT! It does want to stall though sometimes when it’s idling and seems to be only when it’s been cruising at like 50 then coming to a light or a stop sign…I just have to give it a little gas. I’m trying to set up a time to get the car tuned which will hopefully be soon.
What we installed:
Si5 Cam 231/237 .589/.595 112
Patriot Gold Extreme springs
LS6 ported oil pump
LS2 timing chain
SLP UD Pulley
Autometer 3-pod A-pillar w/ oil pressure, oil temp and water temp gauges.
Here a link to a short vid of it. First part is of it right after the first start up and the other was taken yesterday after I got home from work . After I get it tuned I’ll take some more video of it.
Thanks to ibanez7 who owns the same cam and for the wealth of knowledge about it which led me to my purchase and to my other long distance ls1tech friends that I emailed and chatted with for the advice and help along the way when I needed it!!
Let me know what you think.

Glad you didn't go with the MS3/4, that would have just been too big for enjoyable driving. This cam should be much more fun.
Ever think about going with an Interceptor gauge as your third gauge instead of an oil temp gauge? It's exponentially more useful than that one.

Thanks . Yes I decided after all the replies to me that I should go with something smaller. Although I know a good tune would've helped considerably with the idle I think I would've not been happy in this traffic. Yes as Arctic said the traffic is horrendous....2nd worse in the U.S. They say the average is 2 hours a day wasted in traffic here. The car does buck slightly when in higher gear driving slow and I may get some 4:10's. Most likely this will come before the hood being painted. I probably will hold off on getting the hood painted till spring.
We had a misfire from #5 right after the install but it must've just cropped up since the tune a month ago. As it turned out the wire was bad and luckily a friend in Alexandria had wire we could have. Also my stock oil pressure gauge is screwy and was before the swap. It never starts at zero. Usually is between 40-80. We replaced the sending unit btw
I havent thought about the inceptor gauges...I'll check it out.

There's a link to when I installed it with uber crappy pics. However, just look up aeroforce interceptor gauge. It's a really useful gauge.

My comp cams SI5 arrived today, i can't wait to get it installed, but still need some more supporting parts, springs, rods, oil pump & timing gear!
But it's an awesome sounding cam, glad you enjoy it, plus it makes me feel better about about my purchase, in regards to drive ability and idling issues.

I didn't think you were doing the cam swap till later in the year, damn, you beat me.
Nice job, car sounds great, I can't wait to get mine in soon, and can't wait to see some more videos too. You guys tuning it yourselves or taking it somewhere?
If you get a chance can you take some night shots of your new gauges, I plan on doing gauges as well, and am curios how they look at night.

Jeff...I was just guessing how long it was going to take me to save up for everything and thought it would be closer to then but thankfully I was able to get everything alot earlier then I expecte .
We'll be taking the car to get the tune to a place in MD called PSI. Jeff the tuner already has done a "partial" tune for the EGR, Fans....etc and richen it up since it was so lean. Sure I can take a pic of the gauges at night for you...probably even tonight
2000SS....those are good numbers and I probably wont be as lucky to get those since I only have the LS6 intake. How long has it been since you had the cam installed?

mine's been in the car for about a year now, or ~4500 miles. it does great all around. i'm gonna be doing some field service work for a few weeks, but when i get back i'm doing a heads/new cam swap.....only for more power, not because i don't like the cam.
