Default Comp valve spring question

My current set up includes a MTI Stealth II cam w/.581 lift and stock heads with Comp 915 springs. This winter the engine comes out for a new clutch, stage 2 5.3l ported heads, and LT headers.

My question is, I got the heads with no springs on them and since they seem to be doing fine on the stock heads and only have a few k on them, I was thinking about transfering them to the ported heads. Any body got an opinion on if they are adaquate for my new set up or should I go for a better spring. Typically the motor dosn't get run too hard, rev limiter is set at 6200 RPM, and I might goto the track maybe once a year. It's main task is as a DD.

The 915's are light springs that will float with a decent sized cam, I'm surprised you haven't had any with your current cam. I ran the 915's about 6 years ago with a small cam, but when I went to a TR 224 I had float with them.TSP duals for <$300 are great.

Comp cam has now Re-designed 918's gun metal grey, can handle .625" lift and better pressure loads, many companies have been using them with great success.

Any way to know if I'm getting the old or new 918 spring design.

I would get the PAC 1518's if you are going to swap. They are an endurance spring and have surface treatments for longer life. The use of the 915's, if they are OK now, will likely be a function of the valve weight in the new setup vs. the old. You may be able to just buy titanium retainers (if you don't have them already) and continue to use the springs.

Comp Cams did a recall on the old 918's. so all 918's should be the new design.

I had old sets of 918's and they were DARk, almost black and they had a Blue slash down the side for the 2 sets I did owned, these are completely gunmetal in color.

If you have the $$$ the 921's are the best, however if you're on a budget the TSP springs and titanium retainers are the way to go.

I am on a budget of sorts. I also know the motor is not run real hard and rearely sees above 5500 RPM (maybe this is the reason I havent had problems with the 915s I have now). I was leaning toward 918s or other beehive type springs because they will work with the stock retainers.

The PAC 1218's are the old Comp 918's. Someone has them on sale right now too.

Herron Performance has both the 1218s and the 1518s on sale.
