Default Help on a LQ4 rebuild .010 over pistons?

My machine shop is having a hard time finding pistons that are .010 for my 2004 LQ4 motor. I can find Speed Pro Hypereutetic(sp?) .020 over pistons, but can not find Hypereutetic .010 over pistons in either the 6cc dish or the LQ9 flat top from any manufacturer. Can anyone help?

This is a NA 6.OL going into a 65 Chevelle SS

Why not use some 4.030 bore pistons? That's the most common size for them. Are you trying to use Hypercrap for a reason? Stick with forged.

+1, if you cant find pistons for that bore, then why not move up to a more "conventional" bore? then you would be able to find the piston you want, with the dish, or lack thereof, you want.

i had the same problem, but i wanted a forged piston to replace the lq4 ones-i wanted lower comp., but everything was .005 or .030 over, so i went with the .005 to save the block for a future overbore if needed

As forcd ind stated I don't need to go .020 or .030 over on the bore.Currently I am .002 to .005 over on all bores but honeing the cylinders will take me out to just under .010.I want to be able to save the block should I have to go oversize again. Also I can find forged Mahle .010 and .020 Forged pistons for $550.I am planning on running NA and no nitrous so Forged would be overkill.

The blocks can be honed out to 4.06 if they pass a sonic check. The advantage of the larger bore is running larger valves and it will let your heads flow better. Do it right the first time.

I'm not going to get in an argument over this crap with you. What I'm saying is if you are honing it, which you are. Why not hone it more aka .030? You will make more power with a larger bore and it's easier to find parts for that conventional bore size. If you like to do things the hard way have fun searching for 4.010 pistons.

Ended up using Speed Pro 4.020 Hypereutetic pistons. They are coated on the skirt, stock -6 cc dish and are close in weight to the oe.Got the pistons, rings, pins, cam, main and rod bearings for $450.00. Leaves me one more rebuild if I hurt the motor.4.030 if needed.

I am suprised you found those "off the shelf". I would have guessed any pistons that size would have to come custom.
