Default Where can I get a LS6 block... and is it worth it?

Some of you may have seen me post about my new set-up coming. If not... then here it is.

Absolute Speed stage 2 5.3's w/ 230/236 cam. I was wondering about getting a LS6 block.. for more power, and for future projects increasing the cubes.

Can I do it and is it worth it?

Where can I find the blocks for sale if I wanted to put it in with the heads, and what else would I need?

Sorry about the length... I have been reading, but still do not know enough!!

Thanks

Mike

there is virtually no diffrence in the blocks here. i think it's all just a casting number diffrence. they both have 346ci bottom ends and since you have an 01, the onle thing diffrent is that true LS6 shortblocks have coated side skirt pistons and a diffrent cam. no displacement diffrence at all.

Nope, put the money into a 9 inch or 12 bolt rear.

I am already getting a 12 bolt.

I was told that a could build a 366 stroker with the LS6 block.

I was also told that the LS6 block would add about 10-15 rwhp to a stock cubed motor.

Is this not true?

All the things you could do with the LS6 block.. You could do with a LS1 block.. Who is feeding you this information? You are going to waste a lot of money listening to the person who is feeding you your current information.. Just shoot me a PM.. I'll point you in the right direction..

LS6 heads might be worth 10-15rwhp over LS1 heads in stock displacement applications.

Blocks don't make power, heads make power.

There is no difference in the blocks, not power wise anyways.

The LS6 block is a little beefier in some important places in the block, but thats about as far as it goes. Not worth doing unless you have to get another block for some reason.

I gained about 1-2 RWH going to a Z06 block.

C'mon.. Stop teasing him Joe.. You know you can run your car on the dyno all day and the #'s would vary 1 to 5rwhp..

I have no back to back comparison to proove this, but the ls6 block has better bay to bay breathing from the windows between the mains that was designed to cut down on windage loss and make up to 10 more hp from them alone, I will look for a gm tech report I have when i worked for GM that explains how they did this while adding more strengh to the block, the only proof i have is the 25% 02 f bodys that seem to dyno 10-15 rwhp higher with cam onlys than others, we have seen them all post here, the cars that do 415's and 425's with cams only. alot of tuners know about this and dont want to let the cat out of the bag becuase the extra power makes there product look better but I have to becuase Im the one who told mike#9 since he wanted to build a forged internal to go with his heads.

You do have a point Jay... I guess there is a reason it was used as the LS6/ Z06 motor and not the LS1 block....

wow...that actually technically kinda makes sense. I dont know if it works...but it COULD. How weird. Im glad MTI built my motor from an LS6 block I guess...

Maybe in this case different block will help make more power. I though the windows were only worth like 1-2rwhp if that. Would be nice to see more data.

This is funny.. Yes there is better bay to bay breathing. It was designed to help our cars stop burning so much oil. Now for the horsepower increase. I disagree.. Look at the 02 Z06's out there. The avg dyno is 365rwhp stock. The cam is basically almost a B1 or C1 cam.. If you look at LS1's with just cams and stock manifolds.. They dyno pretty much the same.. A friend of mines 99 WS6 with no LS6 intake and a 218 cam and stock manifolds dyno'd 380rwhp with a tune.. He had all the other bolt ons, but still had cats.. This was a 6 speed with 4.10's.. This was 2 years ago.. I also remember seeing those so called unverified at other dynos other than the tuners that so called did the tuning 425rwhp cam only cars.. Not all were LS6 blocks. This is the internet bro.. I bet half the people on here do not even have cars..

Vince, I've seen 3 2002+ stock Z06 dynos and none of them were close to 365rwhp? Closer to 350s
