Default WTF is this??????

Changed oil on the girlfriends 2005 Tacoma tonight and found this sludge on the oil cap and fill neck. There was about twice the ammount shown on the rag. What the hell is this crap?

I know she usually or more like always go's more than the norm on the milleage b/w changes. I like to put synthetic in b/c of this reason. Just finished giving her **** and wrote down the milleage on a piece of paper to go in her glove box. I don't drive that vehicle so I don't know the milleage, I'm not talking a great deal of miles. No more than 5k on synthetic anyways would be my guess. I like to do 3k max myself.

This stuff wasn't foamy either which at first glance it looked like. Last time I changed it there was a little bit of this stuff on the cap, more like a little layer of flim. Definetly not like this.............

This is a normal condition, its a foamy or (sludge) condensation build up. Its more common on vehicles that are driven for short trips. You could try contacting your dealer for a baffle insert for the filler neck ,to help reduce the build up. It is nothing to worry about.

Thanks, as long as its nothing to worry about. I wouldn't have been so alarmed if there wasn't so much of it. It is mostly short trips, day to day driving so that does make sense now but all the years I've never seen this.

Hey btw, I feel special...................... your first post and it was in my thread!!!! Hurray, LOL

Toyota has had some serious sludge build up issues in the past, talk to your dealer...
