Default ok... tr224 it is then

everyone keeps suggesting this cam b/c its the largest smog legal cam available...

my question is.. everything is stock on my 99 m6 z/28.. i;m getting the heads off a 2000 corvette ported (not much diff than the stock i have) and want to install this tr224 cam.. what will i need?

i want some new push rods and springs to go along with the heads and as for the cam what will i need? new lifters??? or can i just pop it in?

help ppl this is gna be all street and california smog legal.. somewhere down the line i will end up with an ls6 intake.. can u guys post actual part numbers and where to buy!?

thanks all!!!

I would recommend some matching spring (Comp 918's or maybe some duels) and some good retainers for the CAM. New Push rods to match.

If you have the heads off. Go for a new set of Lifters if you can afford it. If not, inspect them and if they look good, you can resuse them.

Maybe a thinner head gasket to raise compression a point or 2.

And yes, with a good tune, you should have no problem passing the Calif SMOG test... where are you located ?.. I am in the SF bay area..

i have this cam in my car and i have 918s and i was having alot of valve floating above 5500 rpms.

as for smog i have no clue!! but im sure with a good tune and a set of cats ucan pass the sniffer

Im live in california and have kooks LT's.If your worried about the smog guys checking, mostdon't look.I have the ones with the plumming so to speak.Once in a while you will get an **** guy.I'm near L.A. too.I use pac 1218 behive springs. They had some problems with 918's so I didn't want to chance it.Duels are cool if you can swing it.

Passing the Sniffer is not a matter of what equipement (LT, Mid's or Shorties) you have installed (for the most part), but is a matter of your Tune.
Don't mix up being able to pass the Visual test vs the Sniffer test. Trying to pass them has its on set of what is legal and what you can do or not do to pass the test (Legalluy or illegally).

Most of the time, Visual test will happen before they even will put you on the Dyno for the Sniffer test.

Is TR224 fine without LTs? I'm looking to get a cam for my LS1 GTO and the only exhaust mod would be are catless mids. I was thinking of getting CheaTR as well, but TR224 seems to be very highly praised around here.

Ya,passing the sniffer is the most important(bczee said it). It's all in the tune. That's true. The kooks I have have the provisions too.CheaTR is a good cam for guys with stock manifolds.

If your gonna change pumps get a melling, dont waste your time with the ls6.

And its a good idea to change the pump since you'll have the engine torn apart anyway. Good insurance.

Melling 10295 = stock flow and the 10296 flows 18% more. The 10296 raised my pressure 6 or 7lbs
