I've narrowed the choices down to the F11 & F13...help!!!
I've had a few LS1 cars with Thunder cams and Texas Speed cams, but I haven't owned a Futral cam yet. I've been talking to Alan for a week or two now, and we're still trying to decide which cam will suit my needs the best. Here are the details on my car. It's an 02 WS6 M6 with bolt ons and stock rear end with 3.42s. The car is mainly a street car and will rarely see the track.
My first concern is low rpm driveability and power. I don't want a cam that's gonna be a dog down low, and I don't want to have to spin the motor to 3k rpms to make any torque on the street. While I know both cams would benefit from 3.73s or 4.10s, I won't be changing gears anytime soon, so I would like the cam to drive well on the stock 3.42s. On Futral's site, the F11's power range is supposed to start at 2200 rpms and the F13's at 2500 rpms. When I read that, I was thinking the F13 sounded a little big, because I don't want to have to hit 2500 rpms before I feel any power at all. However, I've been reading that Futral cams are supposed to be very friendly on the street at lower rpms. Alan told me that the 2 cams will drive almost identical on the street. He said the main differences would be 1) the F13 would make slightly more power all across the board 2) the F13 would peak later 3) the F13 would take a little more time and work to tune it just right. Is it true that if you took a Futral cam and another cam with the same specs, the Futral cam will feel less like a dog at lower rpms?
My second concern is usable peak power. I have a stock bottom end, so I won't be shifting past 6200-6300 rpms. I know the stock rod bolts don't like high rpms so I'm gonna take it easy on them. While this may be a smart idea, I don't want to leave usable power on the table. I would think to fully benefit from the F13, I would have to shift at around 6600-6700 rpms, which I will not be doing. This is one of my reasons for leaning toward the F11. However, my question is, won't both of these cams carry their peak past 6300 rpms? If so, won't I be leaving power on the table no matter which cam I go with?
My third concern is idle. I want a choppy idle. I know Futral cams are known for their smooth idle. I'm guessing it's the design of the Cam Motion lobes because I have heard plenty of cam sound clips and a Futral cam will not chop nearly as much as another cam with the same specs. I will be going with a 112lsa no matter which cam I decide on. Obviously the F13 is gonna chop a little more than the F11. I heard a clip of the F11 and it was very smooth for a 112lsa. I want more chop. I know I can lower the idle speed and pull timing to get more chop, but I'd like to focus my time tuning on more important areas.
I hope some F11 and F13 owners can chime in and give me their opinions and suggestions. I have been doing my research, as well as talking to Alan. I will be ordering my cam this week, so I wanted to get as much feedback as possible before I make my final decision. It took long enough to narrow it down to these 2 cams I appreciate any and all help you could offer me. Thanks guys

well you have an 02, so reving the stock short block for the f13 wouldn't bother me at all.
Hell my MS4 with a stock long block and ls6 intake topped out at 6400 and fell off at 6800... I picked up 7 tenths going to a MS4 from a F11 on a 114. My ms4 was on a 111(tighter lsa brings down peak RPM power) They both made peak power at 6400.
I just put a F13 in my 98 Z, and right now with it untuned(its getting tuned) I dont really like the sound of the idle compared to other cams...
Oh hell I dont know what to tell ya lol

Both cams on a 112 LSA are going to give you a choppy idle. HP difference between the 2 is going to be minimal. The 13 will pull out up top by a few HP, but low-mid should be about equal between the two.

Replying to 2 parts of your comment: 1) as far as usable peak power, i was referring to shifting earlier than the cam will peak, therefore losing a few hundred rpms of available power 2) i don't know many people who spin their stock bottom ends to 7k. I thought the stock rod bolts were very sensitive to rpms that high

You won't be disappointed with either. I have the F13 in my 6.0L SS, check out the info on my FQuick page. It peaks at 6000rpms in my auto and I daily drive it. If you are too concerned about going to "big", just get the F11.

hell, 98's are the worst and i used to shift my old 98z with 135k mile motor 6800 with a rev limit of 7k. lol no problems while I had it.
good oil, with regular changes, I see no problem with 6800.. Hell just because you get on it does not mean you have to shift all out... but when you need it against that other car, then it will be there for use. lol
After thinking, go F13 on a 112.

Please...I would still like more input on both cams from owners if you don't mind. But I'm leaning towards the F13 on a 112lsa.

my TSP 233/233 cam drive great down low around town (other than some surge due to a poor tune).
with stock gears i can roll along at 55-60mph in 6th gear, which is something like 1200-1300rpm.
2000-4000rpm is very nice with great throttle response and good torque. and the top end is pretty good as expected.

response from owners of an fm13? here is mine, put it in 3 yrs and have loved it ever since. the driveability is great, it is alot of funto drive and turns alot heads with LM exhaust, so it has a noticeable idle. it does great on the highway.I had a little bit of surging at first, but it was fixed with tuning.

The F13 should be a great cam for you. I daily drive a 228/230 which is just a tad smaller than the F13. Honestly, I wish I went a little bigger.
As long as you get the tuning right, it should be very streetable!

I would definitely agree with going for the F13. After you get the cam in and see how well it drive you will probably be like I should have went bigger if you pick the F11. Hell, I skipped all those and went straight with the F14. Even it was a great cam on the street.

I had ported 98 heads with the old comp 216/220 cam, SLP LTs and a tune. Just put F11 with TFS 215s and kooks stepped LTs. I lost absolutely no TQ, just a little bucking because I'm still on old tune. Very impressed. You will be happy wth either one. I'll have comparing dynos when I get injectors. I'm out of fuel 6000 and shift at 5500 so I don't go lean. Good luck.

My vote goes to the F13. I have been very happy with how this cam drives and the available power at all rpm's. I do believe that drivability is all in the tune however and I have a great tune. I have not once regretted my decision. It sounds like you are doing your homework and after reading what you are looking for I don't think you will be disappointed.

i think youll be very happy with the f13, i have the tsp version of the f14 (torquer 2) and trust me its full of torque so i am certain the f13 has more under the curve power than mine and slightly better street manners
