compression test confusion
Hey guys I am looking to buy this 2001 camaro z28 for my son as a Christmas gift when he comes home from college. The thing is had a compression test done on the engine. Well I had my wife pick up the papers for me and on the papers it said 100-110 compression test. I have no idea what this means and if anyone could help me out I would be very thankful.

This car that I was looking at has 108000 original miles on it and has never been rebuild though so would that make any difference also I saw some blueish smoke coming out of the oil filler when I cranked the engine when it was at operating temp it was not alot at all and one of my buddys said that it was just smoke from the oil being warm

Depends how they did the test. I'm willing to bet it was done cold. As long as the numbers are close all across the board I would give it a clean bill of health. When you take the oil fill cap off you don't want to be able to feel it puffing air out. A little smoke could just be steam. My 416 only made about 140-150 psi cold. As long as it doesn't smoke out of the tailpipes i would say you're good to go.

also, if it's a stock motor an 01 would be a Gen III internal engine, not IV. Ls1 is a gen III motor, however, a compression test is a compression test and doesn't matter what gen of the motor you're talking about.

If you ever do a test and all the numbers were way different, you'd then know it has a problem. But if they are all within a few, you should be fine.
