Default What heads did LY6 come with?

I think I've confused myself trying to find a 6.0 engine for a fox body swap.

Is the LY6 a LOT better than the LQ4's? I want to do a carb'd motor with cam and n2o.

TIA

LY6's had the square port LS3/L92 head! Great platform for a swap. We've put a few in some conversions we've done here with a lot of success!

Engines are scarce around here. I found a LQ4 with 95k for $1175 and a LY6 with 83k for $1750. Goal is 6.50's 1/8 mile and don't mind if I have to spray it to get there. If I had to choose between those two examples I listed, which should I choose for my goal or should I try to hold out for something else?

LY6 has the square port heads and Variable Valve Timing! I'd say for an extra $575 go with the LY6!

Planning on running a carb and MSD 6012 box, can I do that with the VVT?

As of now they are not compatible....I am told they are working on a box that will work with the VVT signals though which should be ready before too long!

Would I be better off getting a LQ4 or LQ9 then? My goal is mid 6's 1/8 mile in a 3100 lb car, with a carb.

I don't really care how I do it, that's just the goal lol.

You could always still go LY6 and just delete the VVT. You'd have the better heads and still a very strong short-block to build upon!

Will all I need to delete the VVT be your kit on your site?

If so, does that mean I can run the MSD 6010 or 6012 box and a carb?

Sorry for all the noob ?'s

Yes, that VVT delete kit on our site will do the trick! You will need the 6012 box for use with this 58X crank reluctor. Just give it power and ground, cam and crank signals, and you're set! It's a pretty easy to use controller!

$1750 is steep for a pull out but I guess you get what you pay for. You should hit 6.50s no problem with a cam swap.

I found one a tad cheaper, 1500 and a LS1 for the same price.

$1750 for LY6 vs $1500last for LS1 is a no-brainer, in my opinion. LY6 for sure!!

Matt, I was just posting in another thread on where I'm at today with this.

I found complete LY6 with 84K miles for $1500. I will have to buy the VVT delete kit and an F body oil pan to put it in the mustang. That's another $400-450.

I found a lower mile LS1 long block for $1000, it already has the right oil pan and no need for VVT kit. With the money I save there I could put another 300 with it and get a set of PRC Stage 2.5 53L heads.

Looking at it that way, would I still be better off with the LY6?

Thanks again, gotta buy one or the other this weekend before they're gone.
