Default how do you all choose which cylinder head CC's is suitable?

When looking for cylinder heads, how do you know how much combustion chamber volume is suitable for your application. Lets use me for instance, I have a stock LS2 in my 06 cts-v. Im looking into a set of cathedral heads, ported FAST 102, stock TB, DD Cam (around 226-234), 1 7/8" kooks headers. I dont plan to touch the bottom end. think 230cc is too big volume? or what would be more "perfect"

230cc's on a combustion chamber would net you about 1:1 compression.

That sounds like runner size to me. A lot of things come into play with picking chamber volume. You need to decide what compression ratio you want, and how much you need to mill the heads to get that, and how much piston to valve cclearance You will have after the mill.

Like the moron above me said the 230cc you mentioned must be the runner length that's the tunnel (if you will) on the head that connects intake to the combustion chamber. I'll post a pic later if you don't know what I'm talking about. The combustion chamber volume is going to be up to you. How much compression do you want? I had a little over 11-1 when i did my tfs 220's and vrx5 cam Use this link to see what you'd like http://wallaceracing.com/cr_test2.php your stroke wil be 3.66 your bore will be 4.0 and your gasket thickness should you go with gm mls gaskets should be .051

Lol jk bww

lol...

my opinion, if you dont know exactly what cam you want, or heads, I would pick the heads first then find a cam that works with them, or get a custom cam.

pick your heads, and static compression ratio, have your heads milled to get your compresssion ratio, then figure out how much lift you can get without hitting the valves on the pistons. then, have your cam spec'd.

thats exactly what I'm doing. Just hard to get a decent cam with the massive 2.165 intake valves of the LS3 head.

oh and litle88, thanks for PM'ing me back douche, didnt give a **** how you were doing anyways. lol

Damn yall are hateful! Didnt even ask about me

You may be better off having someone more knowledgeable spec out your build. Otherwise I say you want to run the most compression you can without having ptv issues.

I would call vengeance and get their vrx5 and Tfs 220 as cast heads this is a proven combo get them milled for an 11-1 comp and you'll have a fast azz V

FWIW... if you have low compression heads a thick head gasket and lots of overlap on your cam your car will be a dog till 3500 rpms or so.

Thats the way I'd do it. Run the most compression you can for the fuel octane level you will be running while having adequate PTV. Keep cranking compression up and it will have high BMEP and make good torque all over the place.

If you are looking at runner sizes for an application, you cant really just use cc's size. You need to take into consideration alot of other things that most head guys dont advertise but may provide if you ask. Things like velocity profiles in the port and cross sectional areas. Throat diameter %'s and things like that. You got to tailor that to the application.
