Default Crank Scrapers: Are they worth it?

Any independent information on them?

Type of engine, power level, before and after measurements of power and other possible parameters..

Also, what ways can oil spray/vapor/whatever one would like to call it be condensed to get it in the pan more quickly?

I think studderin put one on his car and found 6whp. So i would say they are worth it if you would get that same result.

I'd say if your in there it wouldn't hurt, but not worth tearing into the motor just for that

im putting together a shortblock.

if it works it works. another aspect id like to know is with the added power, how much did efficiency increase? the last one is getting the oil vapor to condense to get it to drop.

I'm getting ready to put my motor together as well and will be installing a crank scraper from Improved Racing. Every little thing helps, imo.

With lower RPM stuff it won't really have much impact, but if you're in the middle of a build, there is no downside to adding one.

Most of our customers are seeing an increase in horsepower of around 1.5-2.0%. The scrapers also help reduce oil aeration and starvation.

Here's a dyno chart that New Era Performance posted of their Camaro, before and after adding the scraper, with no other changes:

I trust you... but i want to verify with as many others as possible.

with the decreased drag and better oil control.. what sort of BSFC gains have you seen?

I absolutely agree with looking at results from independent customers. We don't really even like to make claims, we'd rather other people post up their actual results.

Good question, that isn't something we've looked at. Logically there should be an improvement in fuel economy, but it may not be measurable. Maybe someone will chime in with what they've experienced.

you have a pm.

if one is getting close to 2% hp gain with a less than 500hp engine.. it might be negligible but still measurable.

Improved Racing,

Getting ready to pull the trigger on some oil cooler stuff from you and I want to get the scraper. I know its still fairly new for the 4" stroke LS but has anyone test fit it to Compstar crank and rods yet? Probably one of the most run rotating assemblies out there so would be good to get confirmation. Thanks.

We haven't heard from anyone who installed it with a 4" Compstar crank yet, which is usually a good thing because it most likely means if anyone did use it, then they didn't have any issues.

Maybe someone who's tried it will post up!

There is a good bit of trimming for the compstar set up, where the rods pass through

Needs modification to fit LS7 block, 4" crank, and titanium rods.

I got one. With the Scat 6.1" 'stock replacement' rods, a little filing for clearance has to be done. The big ends are a nice bit wider than the stockers.

Inner stud holes do not line up, center crank throws (#3 main) contact scraper, need extra clearance for rods on the passenger side. Driver side clears rods OK.

Ordered mine today for a 427 LS3 build using Compstar crank and rods. As soon as it and the short block show I'll see what I am dealing with.

Improved Racing what is the recommended minimum clearance to all rotating parts?
