Tranny install problem (A4) sigh..
Okay, I just did a transmission swap (from a 700R4 to a 700R4) and for some stupid reason, the gear select cable is about a quarter of an inch (if that) too short from the gear select bracket on the transmission (that swivels and changes gears). Any ideas?
(THIS PIC IS NOT FROM MY CAR. I FOUND IT ON GOOGLE AND CIRCLED WHERE IT'S TOO SHORT)

I tried it already. Won't budge on the tranny. Basically its one gear off. When the shifter (Inside the car) is in park, the tranny is in reverse. When the inside shifter is in reverse, the tranny is in neutral. And so on and so forth. The cable is just not long enough for some reason to reach into park on the tranny.

There is no routing of the cable. It drops from the interior of the car straight down and that bracket bolts up the the tranny pan and then it goes to the gear select on the tranny. The problem is after the bracket (where I circled in the pic). The rest of the cable is fine

Is that the correct Bracket? Is that the correct Linkage for that Transmission?
I have actually seen some Transmissions where the Pans are in different spots, and the Bolts on them are too. You may have to check that with the Tranny you pulled out, there probably is a slight difference, and this is the point where you are noticing it.

If your cable bracket is mounted in the correct location then you might need to do this.
re-adjusted the cable.
To do this, remove locking clip where you adjust the cable then push or pull (whichever) and slide the cable to about 1/4 inch less than where it sits in "Park". Then put the locking clip back on and push the cable on to the shifter bracket till it snaps in.
This is not a 700R4 but the cable should sit similar to this before locking it.
