Well my Stepdad's car had a dead battery today. I used this opportunity to sell him the Optima red top out of my car. I ordered the Deka ETX16. OK so how are people mounting these lightweight batteries? I'll be using the factory location, I can't see me adding weight of wire to run it out back. Anything else I need to use this battery?

You'll need to purchase or fabricate a hold-down bracket for it.
It's nowhere near big enough to start the car from a rear-mount position
(even if it was, that's a lot of weight to add needlessly)

Did it come with terminal bolts?

Remember not to leave your lights/stereo on LOL

No, I think the auction was just for the battery, where can I buy terminal bolts? I suppose I will see if they have a piece of scrap metal large enough at the body shop to make some kind of mount. Anyone on here build their own mount?

I'm excited to be taking some weight off the front of the car, I deleted the front bumper support, now I did this. I've almost got enough weight out of the car to offset the roll bar.

cut a piece of air hose in half... made it just long enough to fit tightly over the batter, bolted it to the metal piece thinking level with the top of batte rin front.... forget what is called lol... then bolted the other end to where the old batter hold down bolt was... works mint.... i use it for a stock batter, but im sure it will work with a lightweight, just cut the hose a bit shorter lol... btw give us a review,im currently in the market for a good lightweight battery... how much does it weigh compared to stock?

Well its not here yet and I probably won't put it on a scale. I had the smaller Optima red top, Summit lists its weight as 32 lbs. The Deka is supposed to be 11.5 lbs. Hey 20.5 lbs lost!

Damn Bolo, did you run that 38# Optima up front? I picked one of those up years ago, didn't fit in the stock location for me and I went and got the 32#'er. No problems with it three years later, just seizing a opportunity to shed some more weight.

Screw that, that spot is reserved for a Nitrous Outlet bottle. I just need a job to buy the other grand worth of parts I want for the nitrous setup. That black bottle sits on the shelf looking all ominous at me, wondering when its going in the car. I think the 860 bottle mount is getting lonely.

my buddy had a heavy duty battery relocation kit (all the wires weighed like 5lbs max). It's not that heavy guys lol

Dude, if 15ft of wire weight only one pound, you are using wire that is far too small.
A typical starter required 60-80A. (That's starter only, no fuel pump or ignition)

AWG 0 is about .3 lbs/ft (Rated to 147A) - 4.5Lbs and safe
AWG 2 is about .2 lbs/ft (Rated to 108A) - 3Lbs
AWG 4 is about .13 lbs/ft (Rated to 81A) - 1.9Lbs
AWG 6 is about .08 lbs/ft (Rated to 60A) - 1.2Lbs of wire and very dangerous to be starting a car with at that length.
AWG 8 is about .05 lbs/ft (Rated to 40A) - .08Lbs (if you've done this ... it's only a matter of time before it melts and shorts)

Now add the weight of the retaining bracket and cutoff switch (required to pass tech).
So yes, probably still under 10lbs, installed correctly.


Having said that, the OP is running a battery that does not have nearly
enough CCA to fire that car though 15ft of wire. It should remain under the
hood until he is going fast enough that rules require him to relocate to the rear.

Sorry, 2lbs..actually a little less cause I have about 14ft in the Car..

And with as very little things that I have in the car electrically, it should work.

Wonder if the design changed, shipping label says 17 lbs. I'll have to put it on a scale to find out. It was a paypal printed out label so for all I know the guy claimed it was 17 lbs.

Edit: Actually looked a bit harder, I bet the one I got sitting here is 17 lbs. I think I was supposed to order the ETX15 for the 11.5 pound one. Oh well this one is still almost half the weight of the Optima.

etx15 is rated @ 190cca etx16 is rated @ 275cca I would say thats not gonna start the car.

4gauge may work for you... but everything I've EVER read said that 2gauge was minimal.
I ran 1gauge.

If you have the right size wire... it shouldn't suck too much current... in other words, I smaller battery should still start the car from the trunk. I could be wrong that though.

I used this link from another thread to read up, looks like they test higher than they are rated: Info, and links to battery specs.
Quite a few people on this site are running a battery just like this, or smaller, so I don't think I will have a issue.

I'm still running a stock type Battery, and very minimal electronics in the Car. I was talking to some people that I know around where I am that build Drag Cars all the time, and they said that in most cases they would have gone with a 2Ga, but for the price and what I needed, a 4Ga would work just fine.
