Default how would a 427 with a cam at .50 232/242-115+2 driving/idle/make peak power ?

Ok building a 427 looking for a little cam help ideas. f1c supercharger at 9.8 to 1 compression engine

Looking for a smooth ish idle. being able to drive down highway at 1800 rpms my 6th at 80 mphs not stalling or luging.

Power peaking at around 6500 but hopefully good pull to 7000

Any sound clip of a cam close to to this on a 427? please post them or a link

Thinking im going to do this camshaft 232 242 .630 .630 115 +2

I should have a video of a twin turbo setup on the dyno like this in a couple of weeks.

It has a 232/238 115+4, LS3 heads. Should be a good runner. I had it idleing without the turbo's on Friday and it would idle at 700 no problem.
Not sure on the driveabilty yet, it will be going into a sandrail, so he should have some fun with it.

It should do about what you want but it's not gonna pull to 7000!

I am runnig a 230/242 on a 115. It idles and drives nicely. I currently have it idling at 850 in neutral. There is a slight lope and you can feel a little bit of lope when sitting in the car. My peak horsepower is at about 6000 using ported L92 heads.

I agree, I think shifting at 6500 would be pushing it. That cam is not designed for high rpm's.

Im ok with shifting at 6500. just would like to be able to keep it my 4th when hitting the end of the track which would be close to 7k.

How is the Z06 redline at 7k with a 211/230 cam ? with its peak at 505 HP SAE @ 6,300 rpm

I would guess that it's peak power is higher because of a wider LSA and the fact that the cam is retarded not advanced.

If this is true should i try for a 116 to 117 LSA ?
Or will this hurt me some where else ?

The redline has nothing to due with pk power. It is the limit of the motor, rod bolts and such. But you said it pk is at 6300.

yes im looking for it to peak around 6k to maybe 6500. but i would like to still pull very hard to about 7k. so i can run out 4th gear at the track.

Yes how can a zo6 peak at 6300rpms with a 211 / 230 stock cam?

Yet my 427 peak at around 6 with a 232 242 115 cam ?

I have a 244/244 .610/.610 114 lsa

It idles very smooth. No lope at all, the car does not shake at all. Its very close to stock as far as I'm concerned.

What heads and intake? That will have a huge efect on your "powerband".

Allpro heads most likely but there are lot of new heads coming out so i may try some thing new
Intake would be a ls7 or maybe a fiber tune one.

These two parts are still being picked for now.

It should rev out nicely with those two pieces.

I would pick those before I picked the cam though. Good Luck..

answer is the ls7 heads and intake better suited for high rpm power

I have one of the 230/242 115 in my 428 but the forum won't let me attach a .wmv file.

Found one that I posted on Corvette forum in this post http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-t...dle-video.html

We built a 427ci with ET heads,Carb style intake and a Cam very close at 232/240 on 115. NA it peaked at 5600rpm with 400ft/lbs of torque from 2000rpm,making 470hp/465tq NA. With a maxed D1 blower it made 790hp/735tq with the peak hp at 6200rpm.It fell quite a bit after 6500rpm.I would run a bigger Cam to pull to 7000rpm or change the rear gears. We ran a M6 with 3.42's and the car trapped a best of 146mph so far.

Ok thanks all of you clip sounded nice with a smooth idle.

Slowhawk What heads were on there ET 240?

how much rpm would i gain with going to a intake of 236 or 238 and exhaust 246I know its not much but really trying so you cant tell there a cam in there else you know cars.

I think you will get noticable lope if you go any bigger than what you originally suggested. My 230/242 may sound stockish on the video but if you hear it in person you will hear some lope. I have idling at 850. You can also feel the cam when litting in the car at idle.

Of course the higher you set the idle speed the less lope you will get.
