Default Multiple fatality street race in Pinehurst this afternoon from a popular racing light

Edit: Note that this first post was based on eyewitness accouts the same day before the facts were public. The car was acutally a silver Cobalt SS. The van was a Toyota Previa and had locals in it also, the driver was an old man who lived here. One of the van ejected women died at the hospital so their were 5 total deaths. It is otherwise pretty accurate.

Houston area guys you will see this on the news tonight but they didn't mention the racing part of it at 6:00 PM. This happened on SH249 north of Tomball leaving Decker Prairie entering Pinehurst. Eyewitnesses who were in their yard on the corner saw a Chevy Cobalt SS (edit: correct the make/model) racing a motorcycle (don't know what type) at high speeds come over the rise in the three lane hiway just as a van full of out of towners from Oklahoma started across it. For some reason the Mazda driver never let up and slammed into the side of the van at speeds estimated to be over 100 mph. The Cobalt SS driver survived and is hospitalized the passenger, his 18 year old G.F., died on the scene. Three people in the van were killed either from the impact or the immediate fire that engulfed the van. Two women were ejected from the van and were alive at that time. The witnesses were unable to pull people from the van due to the fire starting within moments. The motorcyclist didn't stop to render aid and remains unknown.

This light is the last one for several miles of sparsely populated three lane concrete where eventually there may be a freeway in the middle. I've lived out here for a long time and ever since the road was widened this light has been very popular for street races. I can't tell you how many times I've witnessed a impromptu fun run from it. Sometimes with up to 5-6 separate vehicles all giving it hell on Fri or Sat nights. I've even seen a video on here showing some of the guys blasting away from it having fun with each other on one of the Houston scenic cruise meets. Where the crash happened is about a half mile from the light, by then if people keep going at it things like this happen.

If the Cobalt guy makes it I bet he does prison time. I'm sure these people I got the story from will testify against him. When people race on the streets, and many do, you never know what will happen but if it's bad, it's really bad. Racing on the street + young racer + nobody lets up + innocent people unfamiliar with the area = lots of death and ruined lives.

Yeah, I was about 5 minutes or less behind it and I'm glad I wasn't there or I might have been involved in the mess due to usual stupidity. One of the ambulances passed me heading that way from my house about a mile away. Forgot to mention the van driver was seen moving before it exploded, that really sucks.

Man, that is horrible. I try to tell all the street racers I know to take it to a back road that they know really well, cuz if someone gets hurt, it's just the two dumbasses that were racing and no innocent bystanders. I had a friend get killed while street racing just a couple months back so this is a shitty thing to hear. Wish everyone involved the best the world could give them at the moment.

Its a shame that the 2 drivers at fault got the good end of the stick.

1. The motorcycle rider rode off (from the sounds of it he wont be found)

2. The Mazda driver is alive

Everyone else is a victim & innocent at that...

would explain why the law was out in full force tonight!! Too many youngsters making bad decisions. A well known spot was raided tonight...no tickets but they tried to scare a few people.

I don't have any names yet. My wife caught the 6 news and said they mentioned someone. It is the road many take going to Ren Fest, it leads straight towards Ren Fest from North Houston.

After I posted last night we went to Magnolia along this route. Just driving and looking I noticed how there's two hills and just past the second one there's THE road that I thought was a business driveway. Something I had thought would not be used on a weekend night if you know what I mean. I can't recall anyone ever pulling out of it and I've passed it hundreds of times I'm sure. The speed limit is 65 on this stretch, this is one of the fastest roads in the area. Never again will I top that hill at a high rate of speed is all I can say. I won't encourage others to either.
